Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Good to hear your wife is doing ok Joe. While i love dogs Im not sure about that bred. We have had attacks here as well from them dogs. Not sure at this stage if i will be joining the program again. My race is next weekend and wil be my past HIM. hope to go out and enjoy it but want to spend more time with the family. Next few years will be mainly sprint races if any. My race number is 403 for those that want to follow at home. The only concern i have is a sore ankle. Started hurt last long run on Wednesday. I had the same before last years race and I think its from some of the faster runs i have done. Hopefullyit wont hold me back at all. Feeling good on the bike. On saturday a won a KOM on a local strava section and also made a top 4. The swim will still be a challange for me but i hope to push through that so that i can enjoy the bike/run. Glad to report that I am not injured nor sick, stronger than ever and ready to beat the $#!+ out of IMTX!Ernesto, Que pasa? What is this sick/injured all over your training calendar? Two weeks to go. How are you feeling?
BTW, I just submitted my application to the new mentoring group, hopefully I will be accepted... My bad. I guess if you fill out the SI field with a 1 for not sick or injured, it puts a little SI on your calendar. I will not be at IM Texas in person this year. I'm riding the Real Ale ride instead. I will be there in spirit though! |

Extreme Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() JoePetto - 2013-04-30 8:17 PM Hey Gang - Good news from the neurologist - blood, EMG and nerve induction tests came back NEGATIVE. Rules out a lot of the really bad stuff that has been keeping my wife and I up at night. Turns out that the blood came back for an indicator of hyperthyroidism (which runs in the family). Next step is the endocrinologist and more tests, which I can live with. I am back to training (which I need to figure out and balance things with my issues). The week I took off was no doubt needed and helpful. Ruling out the really bad stuff has taken a weight off my mind and given me some additional and needed perspective. I am really questioning my long term IM goal and may pull that off the table because I am not sure whether it really matters to me. More to come.
Quick recovery to your wife. THank God she and your family are fine. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I haven't had a chance to watch the video yet (blocked at work) but the following article on the London Marathon, prospects for a < 2 hr marathon and pacing is fascinating to me: http://www.sportsscientists.com/2013/05/pacing-fatigue-and-brain-lessons-london.html |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I had a first on today's runch. I scared up a bald eagle. On the last mile heading home I heard a crash in the woods. I looked over and a bald eagle jumped up about 15 feet away from me and flew off with a squirrel (lunch) in hand or talon. That was today's wild kingdom moment. |

I had a first today while sitting in my office reading BT.com. Hear a huge thud and see a goose falling off the window from the office next to mine...he must have come in too hot and fast and ran right into the glass. I didn't see a carcass on the ground when I left the office for lunch, but heckuva of a bang. Surprised he walked away from that. |

We have birds hit our windows often. It normally knows them out for about 30 minutes then they fly away. Having 20 lbs of bird hit a window must have shaken the place. |

This being Michigan, I later got to have a conversation with a co-worker who taught me how tough a goose is from a hunting perspective...sounds like trying to shoot down a B-17. |

A couple of years ago, my wife watched two bald eagles take a Canada goose off of an ice flow outside of our house. I took them almost 4 hours to take it, after dive bombing it non-stop. They are a tough bird. You need a big gun and a big shell to drop one. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This morning was one of those days where I had zero, zip, nada motivation. Slept through my 5:15 alarm that was supposed to get me up to head to the pool. Had to get up at 6:45 to take my daughter to school. Planned on coming home and getting another 30 minutes of snoozing. Was able to motivate myself to at least do my run (40 minutes with 8x30 sec Fartleks). Then I managed to get to the pool to squeeze in some swimming. Didn't get the whole workout done due to time constraints but at least got some of it done. Also, since I've been recording everything I eat (myfitnesspal app) I've lost 5 pounds in the last month. Stated at around 164 - and this morning was around 159. Goal is to get to 155 and see how I feel. Would love to be able to get down to 150 and see how I feel on run and bike at that weight. Typically have been around the 160 to 164 level the last couple years. How's everyone else doing? |
