Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: Road tripping to the MOO course July 17 - locals want to join? HELLO WISCONSIN BT! Three lovely BT ladies from KANSAS-LAND are road tripping it to Madison to ride the MOO course on July 17. Would anyone like to join us? We plan to ride the entire course but are all MOO newbies, so might really appreciate some more experienced riders to keep us on the right roads! Also can anyone tell us if there are opportunities to OWS at any of the lakes in the area? Are there swim beaches open? Is there a cost? Is it relatively safe to swim in a group without a kayack or boat spotter? What are average water temps in mid-July (wetsuit necessary)? And would anyone like to join for a swimmy maybe later in the afternoon that day? We appreciate any advice or companionship we can get... thanks in advance! Lisac957 LindaKC InnerAthlete |

Champion 5183 Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Road tripping to the MOO course July 17 - locals want to join? I live here, know the lakes and the bike course pretty well, but am barely running 5K's these days... I would be happy to help organize an OWS, or meet you at a designated SAG/nutrition spot on the bike- Lakes are heavenly. you do not need a wetsuit unless you want to wear it to practice racelike conditions (in which case I can borrow a canoe and paddle over you!) You do not nee a spotter, groups are fine, and there are people out ALL the time. Beaches are open, but you do not want to swim at a beach because then you have to stay in the ropes. do you have a place to stay already? I know a GREAT B&B which is really just a few rooms above a barn out in Belleville- my friend rents it- right on a bike trail (not THE bike trail...) What else? Ask away, I love love love my city, love love love IMOO, and love helping out BTers |

Master 1376 Chicago | Subject: RE: Road tripping to the MOO course July 17 - locals want to join? I could possibly be in for it. I have ridden the course twice, starting at Fireman's park. Let me know when you have the details. Need to decide if I want to drive up from Chicago the morning of or the night before. |

Lisa - I checked my calendar of events and it looks like that is the ONLY free weekend I have. So, if you promise to not go over 16.5 16.25 uh, something-reasonable-that-I-could-handle avg, you just may have a guide - me. I check in once a day to just log stuff and if you PM me, I'll catch it. |

Alpharetta, Georgia | Subject: RE: Road tripping to the MOO course July 17 - locals want to join? Wahooo thanks for the replies! I know it's a weird weekend with Racine, I kinda expected that. I halfway thought about trying to enter it since I'd be in the area! I will PM 1TT and Possum and whoever else with details on timing and a possible meeting place when the date gets closer! |

Master 2099 Madison, WI | Subject: RE: Road tripping to the MOO course July 17 - locals want to join? If you want to swim in Lake Monona where the actual swim takes place plan on doing it in the early early morning hours. There will be other swimmers there then, but in the afternoons you're liable to get run over by a boat. For afternoon/evening swimming, there's Lake Wingra and the quarry in Verona - if you must do afternoons. |

Even though peeps like to start at Fireman's park, I'm still partial to meeting at the BP, which is on Whalen Road (just ending "the stick" section and start of "the loop"). The persons that work there like our business, it's air-conditioned, has awesome cookies along with chocolate milk and other stuff, AND, has a bathroom. The only thing is that they wish for bikers to not wear bike shoes inside. I haven't been on my bike at all this year, so, I will certainly hurt. I've been keeping my eye on the weather, too, and so far, the forecast has been somewhat favorable. |

Remember - I have not biked since Sept., so I will be hurting and moaning and complaining. Just a warning. Edited by 1stTimeTri 2010-07-12 8:25 PM |
