You had an awesome achievement. (Even if you didn't like your time.)As for Yanti's PR.... Just imagine what she could have done if there HADN"T been so much wind. (And mile 11 hadn't made her nauseous....) lastcall2003 - 2007-12-03 5:34 AM enders_shadow - 2007-12-03 5:48 AM No matter what you say, I'm still not going to feel bad for you, Spokes... You're not a crappy runner, you just had a bad day. And you did accomplish something pretty cool...even if it wasn't as fast as you wanted. Maybe, on a few days reflection, you won't be so ticked off - In the meantime, the Nibs will be proud for you. x2! I'm still feeling disgusted this morning. One of my triclub members suggested that the wind - which was gusting at 30 mph - would've slowed down an unshielded runner by 30-45 seconds a mile, but given that Yanti PRed I don't really buy that. Results (overall) are up. 4:39:59 3568/4743 I was 396 in my AG but the AG results aren't up yet. Congrats again, Scott. Hope you're feeling a little better... Actually, I'm feeling worse and worse as the day goes on and as I pick this apart. From every measure OTHER than finishing, I failed yesterday. Big Time. The only good thing that came out of this season was I can run a half under 2:00. I still can't swim worth crap (not that I worked on it at all, because it would have failed even worse than the marathon), I tossed my bike out the window. Its not been a good year. I really didn't accomplish anything except wearing out running shoes. You forgot a few: 1. You experienced the true 'joy' of running. The euphoria of getting out there and experiencing days where everything 'clicked'...running felt easy, your natural surroundings made you want to scream and say 'I'm glad to be alive and healthy!'...'I'm blessed that I can run.' I believe on many occasions you had consistently used the word 'hate' in the same sentence as the word 'running.' Funny...it appears that you're doing the same thing with swimming now. 2. You are now a card-carrying member of group of people that can claim they've run AND completed a marathon. 3. You set a marathon PR. 4. You learned A LOT about running the marathon distance. I am STILL learning the best way to hydrate, pace, etc. I take it as a challenge. I believe you should too. 5. If you run these marathons 'right,' you meet wonderful people and have a great opportunity for self reflection. 'nuff said...(if I had more time, I could come up with way more that 5 reasons why I still run marathons despite the fact that I didn't PR my last one)... |

What you are feeling now is what I feel every time I do a stand alone running race. I am usually disappointed with my time, I am envious of my friends who I've trained with and encouraged along the way cuz they smoke me in a lot of their first efforts but I still go out there and keep running. I am injured now and that just adds to my confidence problems with running. I can't do it, so how am I ever gonna get better? And deep down inside, I'm scared that no matter what I do, I will always be slow. I am not ready to give in to that yet. Don't you give in to it either. |

If you really failed that you "failed" (despite us all telling you otherwise).... why not rectify the situation by signing up for ANOTHER marathon? That would give you another chance to get the time that you'll looking for. (I'm so helpful, aren't I?) |
