I know, I've faced prejudice and discrimination my entire life because of it!

I did it last year... I thought it was an o.k. race. The only major problem that I had was packet pick up. I stood in line for over an hour trying to get my stuff. I had to have my brother and my husband set up my bike and stuff because there wasn't any time. It was horrible! I hate that feeling of being rushed. And honestly I don't know what the hold up was. There weren't that many people in line for it to have taken that long. Anyway, let me know if you have any specific questions.

wow thanks for the heads up on that..maybe theyll allow some to pick it up the nite before..cause if thats the case ill drive there just to avoid that hold up.

What was your idea of the swim portion of the race?  another BTer said it was crowded in there..being a newbie im still training on the swim part and still have no idea of what my time will be to stand in line for.

I did the first one in May for my first race. It was great! I did not have problems with the packet pick up becuase I went very early. Also, everyone was so nice. I think triathletes are the most friendly competitors out of every sport I have done.

I am doing the second one also. I am trying to get my times faster but I don't have much training time so we will see how it goes. I just had a baby 8 months ago and I am just doing two short races this summer. I'm not a spring chicken anymore so I am letting my body slowly recover . My goal is to do longer ones next summer. Hope to see you at the race!

Good to hear your trying this one..its my first and well i hope to blend in with all the other women out there..so i wont look so sick.  Ive done alot of training but not really perfected a time.  Im mostly doing this one to see if i can even do it.  I do have another race planned a month later..but at least they are letting you pickup the packet the nite before.  I would rather just spend that hour before the race setting up and calming my nerves.

Good luck next week and see ya there.

The swim was a little crowded but not horrible. They give you a range of times for example "5mins to 6 mins" so as long as you have an idea where you might be it will be fine! Good luck.

Last year when I did this, I had just had a baby too. He was 6 months old at the time and it was my first race back too!

I did the Rocketchix in May and will be there on Saturday too.  Even though this is my second time, I'm still a total beginner.  The swim is where I worry the most.  I can swim freestlye the whole time but I am not very fast.  I timed myself before the race in May so I would have an idea of how long it would take me.  On race day when we had to line up, I put myself at the end of the 12 minute part of the line because I knew I could swim it in that time.  The only problem was a ton of women were in front of me and many were much slower than I was.  One woman who was about twenty women in front of me jumped in without goggles on and swam with her head out of the water the whole time.  I wasted so much time and energy trying to pass people in the water.  So my advice is don't put yourself too far back in the line.

wow thats nuts.thx for the tip..I did the same as you did timed myself over the weekend and found i got it done in 10 mins. Like you im not very fast either..its the weaker part of the sport im not very strong at.  But that I will do.  I suppose most just assume they can get it done at a certain time but dont consider passing other swimmers.  I do well with breathing once with every other stroke and dont feel as winded. Im not all that fast but i get it done.

Can you tell me once you get there..do you go straight to the grassy area to set up before picking up your timing chip?  I plan to pick up my packet on friday so that all i have to do is get the timing chip first.  Dont want to look like a loser showing up and being in the dark as what happens first.

The rocketchix people want you to pick up your chip first, even before you put out your stuff.  I can't go in on Friday so I have to pick up make package first, then chip, and then put my stuff out.  I did that in May too and it was fine.

Are you still training?

IIRC (I officiated both rocketchix races last year), racks are assigned by bib number, so there's no hurry to get through the process to claim a favorable spot in transition.

Yeah im still training..getting in a bike ride and swim tonight.. and doing strenght training at the same time.  Trying to get in the last bit of push before sat.

Thanks for the tip on the set up Bear...helps out a lot.  so I guess I need to just leave my bike at my car first and then go get the chip and then move my stuff to the location they assign me.  That works..less confusion..

Thank you mama bear..im so glad i went through with it..and finished..it was warm..and alot of people there..but in the end i m glad.  Race results for me are somewhat finished but they have to recaluate my bike and run part as the chip malfuntioned.  Guess i have to expect that..
