When your daughter moves out for school and you turn her room into your workout clothes closet. You separate clothes by sport and pile them on the floor.

Your dogs are used to eating at 4:30 every morning.

You can't remember the last time you took a shower at your house.

You are surprised to see how dirty the house showers have become over the last few months.

You use injury recovery to prep the house for the next training cycle.

You try to talk your husband into moving to the town where your running and swimming coach are.

You decided to become a teacher so you could have the summers off to train and race.

.....when you find yourself brining a water bottle of Cytomax and a GU packet to the movie theater instead of buying popcorn and a soda.

OR

.....when you put on an old pair of jeans and instead of finding that hidden $5 bill in the bottom or you pocket.....you find a GU packet of a flavor you haven't had in while and you get equally excited!!!

You plan a trip out of town every four weeks because you must FORCE yourself to take a recovery week and if you are home you don't have the willpower to back off from training!

...your dogs have become so accustomed to someone being up at 4:00AM that they begin to start getting restless, clickety clacking up and down the stairs with their annoyingly loud nails, and barking by 5:30 if no one's up.

(We have stopped their AM feedings and doubled up on the PM one, to try to break them of this.)

When your friend asks how your Saturday went and you reply with, "Great! I swam 600 meters, biked 10m, ran 3m, and then did my back and shoulders routine."

Everywhere you go (to work, the grocery store, to the mail box, etc...) distances are measured and then coverted to swim, bike, and run times.

  • OMG, that is soooo true at my house, too! But when the alarm goes off at 4:30am, the cat nestled between us "sighs with an annoyed meow" and rolls over...while the dog starts pacing around. Yes, rest days generally include a 5am wake up to let the dog out and try to go back to sleep.

When 6:30 AM is sleeping in LATE

When you weigh the decision to maybe go out to eat with how much you could save and spend on gear and races.

When your co-workers stop asking you to go out to eat with you because you insist on healthy places.

When your co-workers stop asking if you want to go out to eat for lunch because by the time they're going, you're eating your 2nd lunch.

When one of the mandatory criteria for a new house is a "Tri-closet".

We actually had this criteria when we were house hunting.  But unfortunately, I had to give up the Tri-room...
