I've seen malto dextrin mentioned as a good base for making your own liquid nutrition or as a replacement for Carb Pro and I wanted to give it a try.  Does anyone have a good recipe they could share?

Folks have told me you can find it at home brew stores.

I bought mine from Honeyville Farms only $52.99 for 50 pounds...huge sack...will last me 2-3 years. Hardest thing was trying to find something to store it in.

I bought CarboGain from http://www.bulknutrition.com/ or maybe it was http://www.nutricity.com/. I also bought Barley Malt Powder, Dextrose, and Whey Protein, all made by NOW Foods. I haven't had a chance to try it much, but using the barley malt makes it taste just like wort. I have used a combination of maltodextrin, dextrose, iced tea mix and lite salt and it was good. The maltodextrin is not sweet at all. CarboGain was around $13 for 7lbs.

Has anyone tried or does anyone have suggestions for adding a wee bit of protein to a homemade mix? I've been thinking about this (merely thinking -- have not sat down at the 'puter to research it) and wondering what ingredient(s) one would use. When I tried a drink with protein a couple of years ago during marathon training I liked the results on longer runs (i.e. those over 15 miles; I think I tried a sample of Perpetum <sp?> and subsequently have some protein in my Infinit blend I currently use. But I'm not sure about "tasteless" protein sources -- seems the whey powders are usually vanilla or chocolate, no?

Thanks for the pointer to your coach's blog, Kathy. Good reads!
