About mile 4/10 of the Oceanside course is a little out and back at the south end of the run course. There was a guy there dressed in official looking garb, calling it Heartbreak Corner, as in "Come on, there's no walking at Heartbreak Corner" to the guy walking in front of me, and giving various other motivations. Running back from the out, someone behind called out "Hey Frank, are you bringing it back?" Guy's response was "next year."

I was a bit delirious so didn't ask further, but looked up photos and the guy sure looks like Frank. Frank Lowery at Oceanside saying he's bringing back Silverman 2013? If so, you heard it here first

I'd have really mixed feelings about the new rumor. Without a doubt, Silverman was a great race on an epic course, but the total lack of communication over the last year and a half about what the plan for future events may be left me feeling like I got stood up at prom. In my case, a little communication would have gone a long ways!

X2 - I attempted Silverman in 2006 but didn't make the bike cutoff. I LOVED that race even though I didn't finish. I had really been hoping to complete it this year but with NO news I decided to sign up for Chesapeakeman in Maryland instead. I had met the race director in 2006 and he truly put on a GREAT race. Can't say enough about how well that event was run. With that said, I was surprised and frustrated with the lack of communication.

I don't "know" the race director BUT based on 1st impressions I feel he would be communicating UNLESS there is something in the "Triathlon BUSINESS World" that prevents him from discussing at the current time. I have no concrete information on the lack of communication BUT based on my limited information I can't help but think there is more to this story.

However, if this race happens again in 2013 and/or 2014 then I will hopefully be able to sign up. I've completed 2 ironmans since my 1st attempt at Silverman in 2006 (Wisconsin & Arizona) and hope my body holds out to actually complete Silverman.

Please bring it back Frank!!

In response to my post of the same over on ST, it was confirmed by someone who heard the guy who asked the question talking about it after the race.  The twist is that there was a followup question I guess th next lap, where it was asked if it was going to be a WTC race, and got a shrug in response.  Which I would interpret as a yes, which means WTC probably has some rules about announcing its races etc.

BTW, I would agree that the lack of communication on teh Silverman issue left more than a bad taste in my mouth, especially since all I ever heard was what a great RD the guy is

Chris addressed this as well, and I've also heard things about WTC possibly picking up the race. In that case, there would most certainly be something on the business side preventing him from saying anything. I hope people who are frustrated can understand that part of it. It's not necessarily the best situation. He may not be being cold or rude, he could just be required to keep quiet about it.

I had to go to his house to pick up an award once.  It may still be in my GPS.  Want me to go find out?

But seriously, I would love for it to come back.  My first IM was silverman, and I would love to try to improve on that.  Plus the half has a good time as well.

So Silverman is coming back, as IM, owned by WTC.  (There, I just perpetuated your rumor.)

I've heard worse news.  I like independent races, but I'm not a WTC hater.  And the course is, well, awesome.
