puellasolis - 2007-07-17 3:55 PM Ahhh yes, good call, folks. Dobby it is! It really was just wishful thinking about Dumbledore.

When I first saw it, I thought it was Ron's hand and compared it to his right hand. In comparison, it looked like it was shriveled. When you pointed out the wisps of hair, that's when I saw the EARS! Funny how something is right in front of you and you totally miss it, ya know?

She's already stated publicly that sorry, he's dead and will not be pulling a Gandolf (her words).

Exactly. Now that I look at it again, it's definitely an ear and not hair, and the skin tone is very much that of a house-elf.

BTW (question for all concerned), how are we going to discuss the book once we've got our little hands on them? Chapter by chapter? What about the person who is on Chapter 5 and others are on Chapter 3?

How to avoid spoilers? Perhaps label our posts with "Chapter 7 - SPOILER" kind of thing?

Yeah, separate posts for different chapters is probably best. And no spoilers in subject headings, e.g. "OMG ______ died!!!" That's just no fun.

Most definitely.  I'm game.  I know I'd be pretty bummed to find something out before hand. Are you all planning on savoring the book or devouring it?  I'll be in the latter category.

Definitely, definitely the latter. I might not sleep that night.

I don't think I'll be sleeping Friday night/early hours of Saturday. Or Saturday day.

I'm with you... My wife and I will each get a copy to read. It's not like we can wait for the other to put it down. Besides, we don't want to hear from each other about what's going to happen.

I think we should say which CHAPTER we are posting our comment about. It's a given that it's Book 7.

Then follow with black text that is highlighted in black so that those people who are not at that given chapter can view the thread spoiler free.

Looks like this... black text highlighted in black.  Or any text with same color font and same color highlighting.

Those rules work for me.  You may even want to ask marmaron for a 'pinned thread' at the top of the COJ forum once the Book comes out, with the rules posted, so COJ doesn't become flooded with HP discussion

What's wrong with CoJ being flooded with HP discussion? It's not like there's much meaty stuff in CoJ that will suffer for it.

Can't wait.  I can't believe it all comes to an end in a few days.  I like the chapter by chapter posts.  I have a race easly Sunday morning so I am not sure I will be able to get it finished beore Sunday night.  It's going to be hard to avoid all media for a few days.

Nothing - other than having a HP spoiler thread might limit the possibility of spoilers being accidentally/inadvertently posted, that's all. YMMV.

I think we should all assume that any posts about HP&DH WILL be a spoiler.

Wonder if it would be best to have one thread per chapter?

I'm leaning towards the fact that most of the people who really give a major hoot on BT about the book are already posting in this thread ........

What say we put a no HP thread ban until Monday ...... by then we'll all be finished with it and can discuss it to our hearts content!

I am all for that, I don't want any of the last book to be spoiled. I'm temped to not go online till I am done, just to be on the safe side from spoilers.

SPOILER:

I just want to say: I was right about Snape!!!! So many peopel to remind of my Snape character assessment...

Renee - 2007-06-21 6:39 PM

I was looking for source rather than interpretation.

It's obvious Snape isn't bad. Grumpy maybe and a thorn in Harry's side - but he's never done anything to harm Harry. His comments about Harry have not been entirely inaccurate, either. Harry is lazy with his potions - and this is one area that would have made Harry a much stronger wizard. Harry breaks the rules, Harry doesn't do his homework, Harry is defiant. All true. While kids might react emotionally against Snape, as an adult I can see where the author wants us to dislike the character and confuse that dislike with a need to believe he is a bad character. That's what I like about the way she's written Snape's character - he's not an archetype, there is subtlety to his personality and mystery to his motives.
