Pre-race routine:

Streching, ran a few blocks and back then got in the water to get confrontable with swimming in the ocean.
Swim
  • 00m
  • 200 yards
  • / 100 yards
Comments:

salt water =uck. there was a few times i got some good gulps of salt water and yeah messed my pace up on the swim.
What would you do differently?:

spend more time doing open water swims.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

T1 Was overall real good i got everything on nicely and lace my shoes up
What would you do differently?:

the only thing i might do different is to invest in a set of yanks so i don't have to worry about tying my shoes
Bike
  • 15m
  • 4.14 miles
  • 16.56 mile/hr
Comments:

out and back course. with a beautiful ride next to the ocean. i started out flying and catching up to people in my age group but couldn't sustain the pace all the way throught. as i bonk with about a mile left on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

do more race pace rides alot of my training rides are commuting rides and generally not as hard as they should be.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

spent way too much time in T2 considering i didn't have to switch shoes. I fumble with trying to take the garmin off the bike to bring with me on the run and wasted valuable time till i finally just said forget it.
What would you do differently?:

find a way to transfer the garmin better from the bike to the run with me.
Run
  • 00m
  • 3 kms
  •  min/km
Comments:

the run suck my legs were dead from the bike and i had a hard time just being able to jog it.
What would you do differently?:

do more brick workouts. to train my body to make the switch better.
Post race
Warm down:

a jog around the block and grab a bannana and strech out.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

i had stomach cramps throughtout not sure if it was butterflies or just the fact that i had mcdonalds for breakfast. i think it was also cause i filled myself at dinner the night before carb loading.

Event comments:

Grass roots triathlon. the Race officals use a stopwatch for all the timing no champion chips, no big clock at the finish line. the results were posted immenditaly which is kinda a bummer. all in all it was still a very enjoyable triathlon and show that i defintaly need to step it up before xterra.

nice race!  way to kick off the new year!  with two months before xterra, you have some time so you can hammer the bike the whole way!  great job!

Great Job!   You got out there and did it.

You saw areas for improvement, and that's important -- that we learn from our expeience.

Is your Garmin have a wristband?   If so -- just put it on when you start the bike and you won't have to worry about it the rest of the race.  Just my two cents!

Congratulations!

Great way to kick off your season!  It's all about having fun and learning a thing or two along the way.  Sounds like you did both .
