There are 4 real hills in Newton.  They start right after 16 and end at Heartbreak at right around 21.  The first one was the hardest in my opinion.  Heartbreak is just at the worst part of the course as far as being tired and all that.

Weather.com said rain .......... grrrrrrrrr.

The hill you are referring to must by Route 128, right?

You are looking at Tuesday. Here is Monday on Weather.com:

Yes, just as you cross that I guess.  Looking again at the elevation profile, it does not seem to be the "hardest" one, but going by my memory of last year it sure did feel that way.

Huh, go figure, they changed the weather.  Seriously, when I looked an hour ago it said rain on Mon. and Tues.  Now it's Tues. and Weds.

I had a race this weekend where we literally ran up the side of a mountain.  Granted I was in the back of the pack and can't verify this, but even the race winner walked the hill.

After that, I'm not too worried about this Heartbreak Hill...

(then again, my hill was on mile 10 - NOT mile 20)

... famous last words...

c'mon cool weather!!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys need to stop looking at the weather until at least Saturday.  The weathermen are always wrong, especially in New England.  For example, they said it was going to downpour ALL DAY this past Saturday...they even forecasted that as of Friday...and most of the day was sunny, warm and humid with some thunderstorms.  Don't obsess over the weather and just be prepared for absolutely anything...from 87 degrees with sunshine to 50 with Nor'Easter rain/wind conditions (both of which we've had in the past few years).

Good luck, have fun, and I'll see you in Athlete's Village!  :-)

I agree completely with the above post and the forecast will probably change about 6 more times between now and Monday. Hopefully it's better than it was last year, that was miserable waiting for the start.

I won't be running this year but will be out there cheering you on!

You actually have to be training to taper ..... so I guess I'm not tapering .... Tongue out

And I was watching the weather non-stop last year even up until getting on the bus downtown.  I have every right to be nervous and absorbed by it this year!!

Guys and girls send me your e-mail address to [email protected] and I will send you the most unreal excel file for the Marathon, seriously this is the best I have ever seen. It lets you chose your goal time (will do wrist band for you) and also let's you chose the effort level you want to run. It also gives you a detailed course descritpion mile by mile.

Anyway send an e-mail and I will try to get the file out to you.

Cheers,
Arpad

Hi Everyone,

I'm passing on a document that was forwarded to me by a fellow BT'er who completed Boston last year. He PR'ed it (no small feat), and gave the strategy outlined in this interactive spreadsheet training and racing planner some of the credit.

It is, almost literally, the Rosetta Stone of Boston Marathon racing:

Great idea, Skazi. So great, in fact, I'm thinking you must be referring to the one already referenced back on page 1. No?

Hey BT Kids going to Boston, if you would like to be tracked during the race, please go to the Tri Forum and post your bib#. (I Posted a Boston Marathon Thread)

The BAA usually posts live updates with 5k splits and race watching over the iNet is great fun. Of Course, since the race is on Monday, there will likely be a lot of interest since everyone will be at work instead of out training

Good luck everyone and maybe see some of you in 2009 in Boston if not sooner.

Yep you are right. Except that I did not see that post and reference to it - sorry for the repeat.

It's an amazing piece of work isn't it?

By the way this week is really bad, for some reason I seem to be extremly hungry and thirsty - things are going south right now

Better to have that awesome spreadsheet referenced too often, instead of not at all... :-)

Yup - lousy week here too. I'm used to eating somewhat recklessly, and pretty much getting away with it from the running. It's catching up with me this week, however...

"Does this Boston bib make me look fat?" :-)

Because I had a birthday lunch out with the wife and then a birthday dinner out with the whole family on Tuesday, then a celebratory lunch at an Italian restaurant yesterday for the close out of a huge project I helped on I have been eating like a frickin' pig in slop.  I've gained like 5 pounds in the last few days ........ seriously. Surprised
