Subject: Tri Swim Clinic in Sterling, gauging interest

My Masters coach out at Claude Moore Rec Center in Sterling, Dan Dakus, who has coached 6 Olympians, and one world-record holder, asked me to see if there would be interest in a triathlon swim clinic. No real details at the moment, but he indicated that we'd be able to design the clinic to fit our needs, including things like...

  • underwater video analysis
  • drill focus
  • ows techniques, e.g., drafting, sighting, kicking, punching
  • dinner/whiteboard session if we wanted
  • etc...

An added bonus is that Lars Jorgensen, the current world-record holder in the IM swim, would be also teaching the clinic with him. Dan indicated that Lars also is happy to email with people post-clinic with tips and suggestions, etc.

Dan indicated that depending on what we wanted, it might be a 2-day clinic, say 4 hours a day, and perhaps be around $300. He is thinking some weekend in March, before the tri season really ramps up.

If you think you'd be interested, PM me, or leave me an inspire, or reply to this thread. I told Dan that I fully expected it would be easy to get the 10 or so minimum people they'd want to do the clinic.

This would be a unique and relatively inexpensive, when you compare this to things like TI clinics, to learn from the best.

I am interested.  Is it going to be a VAMDDCBTTC thing?  The earlier that I know when, the easier it will be for me to be sure I can make it.

VAMDDCBTTC 'ers get the right of first refusal.  If we get enough people ourselves, which we might, they won't need to open it up to other people.  If I get 10 or so, I can tell him to go ahead and plan it.

I would be interested and know a few other non-BTers who would be too. I just can't do March 8-9 (wedding anniversary...I think the hubs is used to giving up a lot got my sports, but not that).

question - is this going to be geared towards more beginner or intermediate or advanced swimmers?  i am still a beginner swimmer and i'm just wondering if it'll be good for me or if i may get lost in the fray.

Dan said they'd gear it towards whatever we like, actually.  Dan has worked with all levels of swimmers, actually right now is teaching kids, so I don't think anyone would get lost in the fray.

Cool... do you have an approximate number?  ballpark is fine.  I think Dan was hoping for around 10 people to make it viable... I know of 6 so far at least.

I would definitely be interested if it falls on my weekend off from work (every other weekend, worked last one if that helps)

Depending on when it is and how much it costs, I could possibly do it.

Thanks for the info.  I could be interested - just need to wait on final cost info and the weekend to make a final decision.

I emailed back and forth with Dan today... Lars is coaching a swim team and will be available after the NCAA championships, in mid-March. I proposed either having him pick a weekend, or to suggest a couple.

If the majority of people just wanted Dan to do it, we could do it sooner, and I expect the cost would be a bit less.

Will post here when I hear more.

I don't know if this is still and option, but let me know, I would probably be interested (depending on dates/total cost, etc.)

No, not enough people expressed interest.  I should have posted a message here.
