If you haven't practiced it, don't do it. That's a rule.

I ran steelhead 2 years ago sockless, and it worked out fine. But I'd been running that way all summer. Big picture....in a half, transition time is a rounding error compared to comfort. The amount you'll save is negligible compared to the discomfort of a half in the wrong shoes / no socks.

Go with what you know.

Most definately!!! Not the time to be trying sockless and end up in horrible pain half way through the run

Just arrived in town.  We are staying at the Courtyard on Mall drive.  Going to be heading over to the park at 10:30 tomorrow.

Good luck to everyone. This is my hometown area so I wish I could be there! My dad shared an article from the little local paper, Herald Palladium. Have a great race!

a little slow getting to this thread. Yes the event is tomorrow. But what is up with this changing tent they are talking about? Is this set up like an Ironman where you bike is racked but you get/are given your t1 bag as you go to a changing tent. change (where if need be you can show alittle more flesh than usual) stuff your t1 bag with everything and then head out to get your bike? if anyone knows and is not already on their way out to the BT swim please post! thanks.

We shall see after tomorrow but so far, I'm very unimpressed.  This is my first WTC race; however, Gulf Coast HIM has been better in every way so far.

Expo was a joke; not that I pay a race entry fee for an expo.  But I do go to the expo looking for a deal or two.

We were told that we had to wear our run numbers on the bike (this rule was not on the website, nor was it in the race packet - it was announced at the very un-mandatory athlete meeting which I happened to be near but not paying attention to).

Other rules have been very inconsistent.  One paper says stay 3 lengths back on the bike.  Another sheet of paper says stay 4 lengths back.

The general USAT rule is 3 bike lengths (and 15 seconds to pass).  For WTC races (official Ironman and Ironman 70.3 events), the rule is 4 bike lengths and 20 seconds to pass.

In general, in WTC events, you are supposed to wear the run number on the bike (all Ironman races for one).  At Eagleman Ironman 70.3 '07, the refs were yelling at us to go back and get the run numbers before starting the bike.  At Eagleman '08, the refs said that the race director decided that we did not have to wear the run numbers on the bike.  But you will need it at Kona, so get used to it now.

Well it is over.  Nice to meet everyone out there and great job to those that nabbed Clearwater slots.
