Alright, I've waited long enough to start this thread . . .

I'm in for the Timberman 70.3, my first triathlon after three seasons of marathon running. I think I've got the final 13.1 covered, but doing it after 56 miles of up-and-down on a bike may slow me down a bit. [Edit: A bit? Ha. I'm shaking in my pedals.]

Can't wait for it, though! All the race reviews here at BT make it sound like a very welcoming and well organized event for a newbie.

Who else is in?

We try to be pretty welcoming
Seriously, there is a great group of people here, so fire away with any questions you have. Since there are quite a few who've raced it, they have good firsthand knowledge of what to expect.

I'm in, Maz! I am also quaking in my pedals, and wetting my wetsuit! :-)

Seriously, it's a great race, and you're gonna love it!

Alright, question number one (of the infinite amount which will arise):

With the bike course having, from what I've heard, exceptional hills, how does this affect your typical weekly ride training? I'm lucky enough to live in upstate New York, where hills are accessible, if not compulsory, on most rides over a few miles.

How much time do you spend on them?

Maz...Hills...it's what's for dinner - - at least once a week once the tires meet the pavement in the Spring.

Hey Everybody!  So I just started doing Tri's last summer, completing 2 sprints.  I have signed up for an Olympic in June and Timberman in August.  And somedays I am very confident, somedays I am terrified!  I am comfortable with my run...ok that's the part I am most confident about!  Any suggesstions to calm the nerves? I  have to limit my biking due to doing a marathon 6months after my knee scope and my knee isn't ready to do the long distance runs and biking quite yet (but it will be).

When I've been injured this training season, I've spent more training time in the pool. I've added extra laps, but I've also substituted water running for some of my mid-distance runs. Its hard work, low impact, and I've noticed that it has helped my fitness.

Understand that being nervous is natural. Everyone has nerves - whether they're new to the sport, or a seasoned veteran. The only difference with a veteran is knowing that they've already covered that distance. So, just keep plugging along, building up the ride and the run, and every so often, take a breather and look back at what you've accomplished. Doesn't hurt to put in a little "time-trial" every so often - perhaps a longer bike/run (don't worry about time). It'll give you a little boost and help calm the nerves. Since you've run a marathon, a half IM will be fine for you. Embrace your nerves, but know that you WILL accomplish your goals.

Does anyone have lodging suggestions, looks like a lot of the recommended hotels are either full or a little sketchy looking.

Hmmmm......The Steele Hill Resort just contacted me, as they have rooms. It's nice, but about 20 mins to the race site. I think their # is 603-524-0500.

Go to the www.laconia-weirs.org website, as they have a listing of availability. You can also call them, to see what is available.

If you have a question about a particular place, PM me. I can give you the skinny on it...

I'm in too.  My 1st HIM.  Last year I did three sprints.  I have a friend to stay with while I'm there.  I'm a bit nervous about the size of the swim start.  The races I had last summer were fairly small compared to this one.   MMMMmm it is going to be fun though.

How's everyone's training going?  Some of my rides are getting pretty long and it is getting a little tough to squeeze in work, family and workouts.  The weather is getting nicer and that helps a lot.  I am starting to get in that "mode" and focusing as much as I can.

If you're racing Timberman this year, are you sticking around for the TimberParty at 6pm on Sunday?  Most of my team will be heading back that night but I'll be staying over, so I was going to check it out.
