Comments:

I don't normally write a lengthy race report, so this will probably be no different. The real story of this race, is not about me. It is about Jeff (Q). I didn't train for this race, and yes, I did much better than I thought I would do. I was very happy with my time. But it was nothing note worthy. But Jeff's goal was lofty. It was to get to Boston. He needed to run a 3:10:59 marathon. Read his race report and I am sure you will see that he not only made that time, but placed 5th in his age group and 29th over all. This was a big race, and to accomplish that is really amazing. I was so happy to be there, and see it happen. To experience the joy and relief when he crossed the finish line ahead of his goal. I called out to him but he couldn't hear me. I was going to hop over the metal barrier between us...but then decided that since I had just run 13.1 miles myself, I probably wouldn't be able to clear the top of the barrier and what he would end up seeing is me, face down on the ground...so instead I went around. He let out a scream (or tried to) when he saw me...and we hugged. That is the real story of this race. Bridget, also ran an amazing race...like me, she had not fully prepared for it, and ran a 4:46...and Dennis ran a 3:20:01 (both of them really inspired me this weekend). Those are the true stories of this race!
What would you do differently?:

Not a thing! Besides actually run some training runs before the race.
Post race
Warm down:

PIZZA!

Event comments:

Now if I could just have gotten that hottie at the frontrunners aid station that I flirted with!

Age Group: 103/164
Overall: 980/2270
Performance: Good
Course: The course was great. It was basically flat, the temperature was perfect...except the fact that I was not use to the humidity...so I tended to sweat a lot more than normal all weekend long. The beauty of Tampa stretched out the entire race. Running along the waters edge for some of it, and through downtown tampa for the rest (it is such a clean downtown, in comparison to San Jose)

Great job out there

This looks like a great tuneup race for your upcoming Tri and your training for the SF Marathon. Great way to kick off the year to be sure.

Best of all, you had some great company for the race.

OMG  you are SOOOOOOOO gonna make me cry!

It was AMAZING spending time with you this weekend.  I had a total blast, it was like we'd known each other for years!  There was no getting used to ya or anything.  Instant friends.

I am so proud of you, and next year you're coming back (even if I have to pay the airfare AND the race fee) and you're gonna run the marathon with me.  BELIEVE IT!!

Thanks for spending the weekend...can't wait to do that again!  And big thanks to Rickey for lending me my friend for the weekend!
