Pre-race routine:

woke up, drove to Downtown alone yet once again as Tom was working. It was nice to be alone, he creates anxiety for me for some reason.
Event warmup:

turned in bag, sat down to stretch. Saw Jeff and runningwoof come in. Got to meet a new BTer! Pckingfl (?) also stopped by. We hung out, stretched, etc for a while till it was time to go.
I sensed something was amiss when I couldn't do my usual bathroom routine. This did not bode well. I think it was breakfast- white toast! NO protein shake, no bagel :( NOt enough coffee.

Comments:

bad run. I had tummy issues for some reason. Then around mile 6 my hands started swelling up really bad. I only bought one endurolyte which I took at mile 3. So I took some gel and water at the next station. Then I took gatorade at each. But by mile 9 it was horrible. Good thing I wasn't wearing my wedding band. I wasn't sweating much (and Jeff and Mike said the same thing) as opposed to yesterday I sweated buckets. My legs were hurting, but my HR was where I wanted it to be, so. In the last half, I walked more than I wanted to. My legs were just too tired. I decided after Mile 9, feck this walking sheet and just ran as well as I could to the finish. Danmed if I was gonna walk any part of the last 3 miles.
What would you do differently?:

not have tired legs? I wonder how much faster I could've gone on fresh legs and properly hydrated body (and poop free).
Post race
Warm down:

stagger to the Columbia food line. eat. As much as I love the Columbia, I didn't find it to be very good.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

running 12 miles the day before?

Event comments:

after race: went to Convention center, got my bag, laid on floor to try to stretch. Went to bathroom, still no go. Saw Jeff and Mike again, and Q told me his news and gave him a great big hug! yay!!! He is so awesome!! I didn't get to see him finish though.
So, had to leave from there, the boys were home alone and had to do the mommy thing. Took a nap. Took kids out for lunch.
And all this crap and I still beat the last time I ran this- in 2006 with Renee, Max, et al in 2:35:35 on fresh legs. So I PR'ed twice in one weekend! I swear, I think all the BTers PRed this weekend!! whoo hoo!!

Performance:
Mile 1,2 21:40 154 Mile 3 10:56 155 Shortly after mile 3 I had to go to the porta potty and I stayed in line and the potty for 5:44!! Why couldn’t I do this BEFORE the race?? Miles 4 to 7 were lost because I stopped my watch by accident after being pissed off for having to stop for so long. Mile 8 10:47 154 Mile 9 11:03 150 Mile 10 11:45 148 Mile 11,12 21:34 146 Mile 13.1 13:43 152
Course: it's different than 2006. Went around the island first and didnt' split up till after we went around the finish line. Yeah that was mean. We had to go AROUND the finish line while folks were finishing. Well, okay, the really fast folks. I saw the Hoyts run by me the other way. way cool.

My hands swelled up too...I have had it happen before, but never during a race...sort of freaked me out...I just attributed it to not being use to the humidity...Next time I think I should come for a couple weeks...bring the partner, go to Orlando...maybe even head up to Pensacola to see how different it is from when I was stationed there...and then do the Marathon...maybe by then my body would have "climatized" itself!

And it was great to meet you too!  I had a blast this weekend!

Yay!  It was so good to see you after the race!!  Well...before too, but I mean I was so psyched to see my friends!

OK, so a tough race for ya but you still PRed and you still pushed thru it!!  That's a success in my book!  And yes, I agree, your 70.3 run split will be great!!!

Way to go! WOOOT!!
