Pre-race routine:

Tried to get the kids up to come with me. That was stressful. Ate scrambled eggs and tortilla an hr and ahalf before the race. Stretched at home.
Event warmup:

light jog at hr of 130 about 5 mins. Stretched about 5 min.

Comments:

My first race! I started in the back and many people tore past me early on. I passed many of them plus others consistently throughout the race. I focused on my HR monitor and my breathing and staying focused on not running too fast. My HR monitor kept me honest...the best instant feedback. No surprises.
What would you do differently?:

Have more faith in myself. I didn't stay for the stats or the awards cuz i thought I would find out i was slow. Reality check: I came in first in my age group.
Post race
Warm down:

Helped a fellow racer who had fallen and scraped up her hands. Got the first aid kit and bandaged her up. Drank water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing...I did my best.

First mile ran in HR 160's. Second mile kept it 170-173. Last 1/4 mile 179.
Course: mostly flat and fast from Bosque school grounds up Montano Rd and a short distance along the Rio Grande. Last quater mile around the school track. Had to run between barricades a couple of times which was a little nerve racking.

Congrats on that age group win. Are you doing Shamrock Shuffle next month?

thanks for noticing (hee hee). Its a nice start to my running life...I only started running over Thanksgiving and I am not a confident gal when it comes to athletics. I had many humiliations in sports as a child.

I think I am going to do run for the zoo May 4th... I am not ready for another race yet...I am still working on how to recover , cross train (swim and cycle), ski, and rest as my body needs. I haven't really sorted it all out yet, as I am a total newbie in the tri arena.
