Subject: RE: First Cold Weather Race For me, running and cycling are completely different to dress for. In running, the rule of thumb I like is that you want to be cold for the first mile or so until you warm up. If you can't tolerate being cold, then wear a throw-away that you can discard. For a 40° start I would wear running shorts, and a long-sleeve CoolMax under a short-sleeve singlet. If I felt that might be too warm, I would put the SS under the LS and remove the LS if I got hot and tie it around my waist fopr the rest of the run. Prior to the start I would have an old sweatshirt or a garbage bag that I could toss to the side. On the bike, I never warm up due to the wind chill. For a 40° start, I wear cycling shorts under thermal tights on the bottom, and a LS CoolMax under a LS thermal jersey with a wind vest on top. I would also have full finger gloves, a helmet liner, and toe covers. |
