My 11 year old son had baseball practice yesterday and I am one of the asst. coaches for the team. Maybe it was beause I was wearing my Try Tri Again triathlon training class t-shirt, but while I standing off to the side while the head coach was pitching during bunting drills, I heard my son talking to another player and saying, "My dad is a triathlete." Now for all I know, his next statement could have been, " And he's an idiot also." But just to hear him say it...

Of course, he's not 100% correct. I'm technically a triathlete-in-training, or more simply, a wanna-be.

Still, it's the little things that get to you.

Enjoy it while they're young 'cause they'll turn on you and you won't be anything to be proud of - at least for awhile, then they'll come around again, but man, those few teen years...

Then there's the type of unintentional, honest bragging I overheard my youngest son speak to his friend's parents (when they were dropping him off after a weekend sleepover and as they pulled up in view of my bike leaning against the house), "yeah, that's my dad's bike - it's worth more than mom's car"...even though it's far from true, I had nowhere to hide and felt like crawling under a rock. Gotta love kids.

It was a nice moment when my 12 yo daughter told her friends that I was doing an IronMan, almost sounding like she was impressed.
