Just wondering where you folks ride your bike in training.  I live out in the very West Valley up against the white tanks.  As a Paramedic I have seen MANY automobile versus bike accidents so I'm pretty weary about riding out on the road.

Yup, giving them 3' because it is the law is about worth as much as any of the rest of AZ's non-inforced traffic laws.

However, take a look at the ESCKTC weekend ride threads (there is a ride planned for Saturday in the Tempe area, and Gilbert is nice as well.  I like riding the Carefree HWY inthe west valley becasue the shoulders are wide enough to offer me a litlle wiggle room when the crazies come gunning for me.  Also, US 60 towards Wickenburg is nice for the same reason.

I live in Surprise (also by the White Tanks), and I like riding Sun Valley Pkwy. (Bell Rd.) on Saturday mornings.  I also have ridden Grand Ave. to both Morristown overpass and Wickenberg.  The Arizona Canal MUP can be picked up at Thunderbird Paseo on 67th Ave. between Thunderbird and Greenway, and that is a really nice ride.  Those are my three favorites.  If you want to get together for a ride sometime, send me a PM!

I also think there is a tri group/bike group that rides in Verrado area, don't know the contact info but maybe you could call that community office.

I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for groups in the northeast, with multiple skill levels...

I'm a big fan of the canals...no vehicle traffic, underpasses for most of the streets so you don't need to stop and cross, pretty popular with cyclists and runners.

We have a pretty varied group of riders that ride primarily out east (Usery, Gilbert, Tempe, sometimes Fountain Hills) about once a week. See the latest few posts in this thread: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp...
