Swim
Comments: Great first 50, got passed by one guy, then got tired, but didn't get passed any more...definitely got in rhythm around 150m or so...too bad it was so short, love swimming! What would you do differently?: Practice more before the race...I was definitely not at by best because of lack of training... Transition 1
Comments: It was embarassing how hard it was for me to get out of the pool, I looked like a beached whale, my arms were tired, and I got no upper body strength anyways, so I kinda got onto my stomach, and wiggled the rest of me onto the concrete...embarassing...my transition was slow...had trouble balancing to get everything on...but this was my first tri of the season, so that will get better... What would you do differently?: lots...but it was fine... Bike
Comments: I thought the wind made this really tough...I'd estimate around 20mph wind, and some really strong gusts...wind was going from NE to the SW...going E and N was a joke...I was going like 14...and struggling to do that (embarassing!)...but then going S and W was great...I was going about 20+ easily...then towards the end, there was a huge hill...into the wind, which made it even harder...I was going about 6 at the end of it... One thing they were great at was keeping cars away...during the last year, I've had a few races that were just downright dangerous in that respect...this one could have been, but the cops/volunteers really kept the traffic completely under control:) What would you do differently?: Tell the wind to go away? Transition 2
Comments: Actually sat down to tie my shoes...didn't have my quick laces today, so it took a lot longer...also had to balance the bike against a pole, which was harder also... What would you do differently?: get quick ties for my shoes (they are new shoes, and they are awesome!) Run
Comments: They always advertise that this course is 1.5mi, but it isn't...it is 2 miles...poor people must think they are running so slow...but really the course is just long...into the wind at first, and then when you turn, and have a tailwind combined with a great downhill, it was wonderful...then its two hills, the one at the end is pretty tough...I got passed by a number of people but thats normal for me on the run...but I did run the whole thing, and felt fine afterwards...when Matt was timing me, I was going 9:45/mil avg, which is good for me:) What would you do differently?: nothing...this is a better time than I had been getting in a while...just gotta get faster... Post race
Warm down: Walk around with Matt, drink some water, have a piece of cake... What limited your ability to perform faster: Not much swimming or bike training, but I'll work on that before Ironman (obviously)...the wind was also really strong... Event comments: A lot better organized than last year, they also had times up quickly on the website which was nice - and this year, the times were accurate (whereas last year - they had "in my dreams" times:)) Last updated: 2008-03-30 12:00 AM
