Total Time = 3h 17m 56s
Overall Rank = 476/718
Age Group = 40-45
Age Group Rank = 53/61
Pre-race routine:

Had Cliff bar and Cereal bar before leaving hotel w/ cup of coffee and regular med/vitamins.
Event warmup:

Rode bike 2 miles to event. Set up transition then did some running. Before swim wave did some swimming (~100 m)
Swim
  • 21h 55m
  • 966 meters
  • 2h 16m 11s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim felt good from the start. Started in the front of the pack - new for me - and pretty well stayed there. Swung wide on the buoys so may have cost myself some time. Remained calm which was a first for open water swimming. Very happy.
What would you do differently?:

Stay closer to the course bouys. Not sure if I hurt or helped myself since the buoys didn't look straight to me. This was my best open water swim ever!
Transition 1
  • 02m 50s
Comments:

When I bent over to unzip my legs of my wetsuit, I got dizzy and fell. Unzipped legs and strippers got the suit off. Then when I got up, I was very dizzy and almost got sick. Had to take 30-60 seconds to calm myself.
What would you do differently?:

May try to not stop at strippers. Felt great until I bent over to unzip legs. or, just let the strippers do their thing. Not sure what to do here.
Bike
  • 1h 32m 58s
  • 28 miles
  • 18.07 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike felt good. Not sure how hard to push since I've not been running much. Couldn't stay in aero bars much because my neck hurt and the cross winds were making handling dicey.
What would you do differently?:

Need to spend more time in aero and build up the engine better. Other than that the bike was where I thought it would be.
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

After queeziness out of swim decided to sit and put on shoes. Other than that, great transition.
What would you do differently?:

Today? Nothing.
Run
  • 1h 18m 54s
  • 6.5 miles
  • 12m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

I was spent. The first 2 miles were hard. My back started cramping on the swim, got better on the bike then dominated the run. I haven't been running much (shin splints) so didn't expect much and that's what I got. I walked a lot. By the time I was done, my back hurt from my shoulder blades to my knees.
What would you do differently?:

I need to run - a lot more. That's all I know to do.
Post race
Warm down:

Message and stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My run. Everything else went like planeed.

Event comments:

this was a fantastic, well organized, well supported race. Lots of music on the run along with cheerleaders and more. Definitely a must do every year. Any shortcomings were my own fault.
