Swim
Comments: This was one of my best open water swims ever! I felt very comfortable. I maybe should have gone at a higer speed, but I didn't want to over do it. I can't stand the long run up the hill to get to transition area. Unfortunately I walked up most of it since I was feeling a little wobbly so that cut my swim performance results significantly since it counts as part of the swim. What would you do differently?: Have shoes or flipflops at the swim out so that I can use them to run up the hill. My feet were bruised for a week after. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: They cut the course short significantly since there were areas of construction that they could not use. We had one lane of the two lane road we could use. The frustration was that so many of the riders weren't staying to the right so it made it very dicey sometimes to pass. What would you do differently?: Try not to make a mess of my chocolate gel. I think I got more on my bike than I did in my mouth. Maybe the shotbloks next race. Transition 2
Comments: I went running towards the bike in and lost some time trying to reorient myself as to where the run out was. Run
Comments: I met a lady that was about my same pace and so we talked most of the race together and had a great visit. The time flew by. It was a very easy 5k run. What would you do differently?: Probably focus on the race as a "race" and not so much of a social event, but I was having a great time and enjoying the moment. Post race
Warm down: Had some recoverite and cheered on the rest of the competitors as we passed them walking back to the bike transition area. What limited your ability to perform faster: I think I was acting too much as a spectator than a participator. It was just a wonderful environment. Event comments: This was my second race overall. I had a wonderful time and got to meet a lot of new people. This was a huge event compared to my first race so it was a little overwhelming but I felt like I performed well under the circumstances. I was sad that the bike part was cut short, but I am glad I didn't do the olympic course since it sounded like it was miserable for them on the bike and the gusty winds. The sprint course was in a residential area so we were protected from the gusts of wind. Thanks to Keith and all the volunteers that made this a very enjoyable race. Last updated: 2008-01-23 12:00 AM
