Sunny
Total Time = 1h 36m 22s
Overall Rank = 571/836
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 60/72
Pre-race routine:

Woke up and had oatmeal w/ peanut butter. Tried a cup of coffee and it wasn't hitting the spot this morning. Drove to the race with the fam.
Event warmup:

Set up t-area. Went for a short run then a short swim.
Swim
  • 13m 24s
  • 500 meters
  • 02m 41s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good swim considering I've only swam 2x in 1 month. The beginning was really crowded w/ lots of wrestling. I stopped at the first bouy to get some clear water. I was getting worn out in the washing machine. After than, I ended up with a guy doing an angel style backstroke w/ arms simultaneous and wide hitting me in the head and pushing me backwards. there were several times I had to put on the afterburners to get around someone who didn't know what they were doing. sighting was great though. course was well marked.
What would you do differently?:

I need to train in open water. I was comfortable, but still not ready for a HIM w/ no wetsuit. What I don't understand is why my time was so slow. I did find my hips sinking a lot - again I think because of the open water/sighting. I was shooting for a 10 - 10.5 min swim.
Transition 1
  • 01m 25s
Comments:

Good transition. Had trouble running from the water to t-area. Other than that, it was good.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Bike
  • 47m 15s
  • 15 miles
  • 19.05 mile/hr
Comments:

Beautiful ride. Good road conditions. Happy with my speed, though still looking to break 20 in a race. First time I've been in the saddle in 3 weeks, so quite pleased.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Obviously I should be training.
Transition 2
  • 01m 5s
Comments:

I wish I could run w/out socks. Putting socks on makes me need to sit down. Otherwise, I could save time here.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 33m 11s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 40s  min/mile
Comments:

Running is still my nemisis. I've got to run a lot more. My quads were cramping, forcing me to stop and stretch at the end of mile 1. I don't like my performance, but my PB on a run is 10:05/mile and that was after months of training.
What would you do differently?:

Get a motor scooter. Considering joining a running club.
Post race
Warm down:

Not much warmdown.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm fat. I didn't train.

Event comments:

Great race and well organized. Sadly, a man lost his life in the swim. My wife and kids saw them pull him out of the water.

This is a great race with a great, beautiful venue. Definitely a must do again if only for the fun.

Hey good job on the race.  I don't think they'll have a motor scooter division in next year's tri but it's worth investigating!

I think I saw ya out there in the BT suit!  If I wasn't so out of breath I would have said something to you!

So when's the next race?

Congrats again!

Hey saw you yesterday with the family (your BT shirt gave you away) - didn't want to come over and be some cyber-freak with the family around....  if you get that scooter category let me know and I'll join you.

Congratulations on a job well done.  Maybe you should have worn your helmet while swimming.  Sounds like it was more like a water based slug-fest.

Good race. To bad that I did not have more time to come over and say hello. I was one of those beating you up at the swim start. Sorry about that, but I could not find clear water until I made the turn at the first buoy.

Congratulations, great race! The swim was pretty brutal, I'm not sure why time was slower then I thought it was too. I think if you had motor scooter out there, I would have jumped on the back. Maybe that's why they aren't allowed? If you're looking to improve your running, I do track practices up here in the Woodlands on Tuesday evenings. My results have been absolutely incredible doing these. Let me know if you want more info.

Great job out there Greg....with all the stressors in your life right now, that's pretty impressive that you were able to get out there and finish strong on little training.

Great job on the sighting, a super smooth bike, and putting it out there on the run.

I know you're limited in training time, so you did really great and sounds like you had fun being out there, which really is the whole point.

Congratulations!
