So, I'm thinking of doing this as my first triathlon of the year. I like that its only an 11 mile bike, which should be a good warm up to the ones I do the rest of the summer. Has anyone done this before?

I'm also planning on doing the Lake Michigan Tri in Kenosha for July, and the Silver Lake Tri in Portage in August. Has anyone done these and have anything to say about them???

Thanks

I did the Silver Lake Tri last year.  It was the first year they ever did it.  It is pretty much labeled a "beginner" course.  Silver Lake is pretty green and mucky. The bike course is extremely easy.  I only remember one hill and it was not that big and the run course is down a few local roads which takes you to the airport and they have you run out and back on the the landing strip.  I averaged 18.73 on the bike.  But well organized group that put it on last year.

Ive done the Lake Mich tri and then the duathlon last year. Frank Dobbs race. I did them only because it fit in my race schedule. The usual poor course support, very few volunteers, and those, bless them, had no idea where to send the runners etc. If you can find another race that fits your needs, do it.

Schmize (Fellow Donkey from IL) did it last year. From his report it was quite hilly. The bike course is part of the IMWI course. My in-law are from Verona and I thought about doing it, but it never works with my schedule.

Oddly, I was just considering this one. I realized that what I'd previously planned meant that I was starting the season with 3 races in 7 days, which seemed a bit excessive. So, I'm thinking of swapping out Lake Mills for this one. I understand that the bike course is short but tough. But, that it's a very well-run race.

I'm sorry I don't think that will work. It seems all the Donkeys are doing Lake Mills this year. So I think you are stuck doing Lake Mills.

Dude - you're a slave driver!

How about I just show up and be the official donkey cheerleader. Would that work?

I'm trying to find the exception in the rule book, but from what I remember, I think that would work.

Isn't that what sick days are for?

I didn't do it last year, because it filled up (sign up early!), but I went to watch and it seemed pretty cool. The swim looked kind of fun because you basically swim a loop, get out, run around a tree, then swim another. I believe the bike course goes on part of the same route as the ironman. And the run course looked pretty hilly. Lots of loops, but makes it easy for spectators to watch.

well, it looks like my lodging plans fell through, so I may be out of this race. Oh well, I think it will be better if I do a longer training session before my first one in July. I may have to throw in a September race instead.
