Pre-race routine:

Stayed at Days Inn in Ft Morgan. Not a lot to do in the town, but Meg and I found a nice little Italian restaraunt. Unfortunately our hotel smelled like cigarettes and Drakkar Noir. Got up early and had the usual breakfast and coffee.
Event warmup:

Got on the bike and rode out of the park a few miles and turned around. Ran about a mile with a few pickups.
Swim
  • 22m 14s
  • 1000 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

The first 250 of this swim really sucked. The cold water just completely took my breath away. It took about 3 or 4 minutes to gain some composure and start swimming. After I got used to it, it went completely fine. My face, hands, and feet went numb and I started feeling good.
What would you do differently?:

Man I wish I would've gotten in the water before the race. Had I done that I would have pulled a huge chunk of time off this. Other than that I'm ok with it.
Transition 1
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

Transition was fine. Had a hard time finding my zipper cuz my hands were numb, but over fairly quick for wearing a full suit.
What would you do differently?:

Not much I can think for right now. It will get quicker as the season progresses.
Bike
  • 1h 21m 30s
  • 36 miles
  • 26.50 mile/hr
Comments:

This course is super flat and fast. I loved it. Right outta T1 I started drilling it. Wanted to maintain mid 160's HR. I've really been working on my sustained power lately and I managed to hold quite a few more watts than I usually put out for a 1 hour in training. I was really happy when I found out I had the second fastest bike split only to Tim Hola, who averaged 26.9 mph. Stayed in the aero position the whole time with the exception of a few turns. My goal was to average 25 mph and I hit the 25 mile mark in 57:33. Got pretty psyched about that and turned the screw a little tighter.
What would you do differently?:

The only thing I would say is drink more. Everything else hr,cad, and watts were all spot on.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

Took my time here as it was getting really hot. Took one last pull of Infinit and I was off on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 43m 35s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 01s  min/mile
Comments:

Very tough run. I was getting really hot and was double cupping at the aid stations. One in and one on. It hurt, but was sustainable. Passed a good half dozen people on the run, but I think some were doing the short course race. Got passed by one guy pretty hard that I previously had passed pretty hard on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Run faster!
Post race
Warm down:

Drank some Gatorade walked around, but mainly just wanted to sit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The first 250 of the swim. Not drinking enough on the bike.

Event comments:

Overall a great race. Ft Morgan however would not be first choice for a destination race. The course itself was cool. They did a great job transporting the gear. My goal was to be under 2:30 and I did that just not in the splits that I had planned for. Overall a good hard effort.
