Law Enforcement Torch Run is a benefit non-competetive relay which raises money and awareness for Special Olympics.

This leg of the Relay went from Gallup to Grants and took place along old Route 66. Total group time for running and cycling the 60 mile course was about 8.5 hrs.

I rode three different sections on three different bikes.

Section 1: 3.25 miles - approx. 18 min.
One of the other participants let me try out his recumbent bike. An interesting experience, but I'm not in any hurry to by one.

Section 2: 7.5 miles - 29:16
Used my regular road bike (Trek 1500). Nothing spectacular about the ride. Still getting my cyclings legs back after being off the bike for a month.

Section 3: 2.3 miles - 23:26
Used my Dahon folder (Boardwalk Singlespeed). We had thrown this bike in the back "just because". My wife had ridden it during an earlier leg and noted that if you start going "too fast" the whole bike starts to shake, but in fairness it is designed more for casual riding.

I used it to ride very casually with the runners.

Did more driving / escorting. Passed the torch on to Grants PD. Grubbed at the department.


Basically some non-issues for this type of event - Headwinds, equipment choices, and following pace with other participants. Getting sidelined by "Uncle Rabdo" after meeting "Fran" (CrossFit) last month probably didn't help either.
