I'm heading up to Chicago later this week for a wedding and later this month we're heading to HI for 10 days. We're taking a curise....which will likely be 7 days of no-holds-barred eating! ~Mike During the day is easy, just be careful around the midnight buffet......there is no need for anyone to eat prime rib, pasta and hit the dessert bar at that time! Member 48 Prosper, TX | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in May's totals: Bike: 25h 32m 36s - 430.16 Mi Run: 12h 18m 44s - 75.3 Mi Swim: 12h 12m 37s - 23275.24 Yd Strength: 3h 05m I'm a little concerned about the race, even though I'm sticking pretty close to plan. Had a weird episode of absolute fear of OWS this month, but broke through that this weekend at a sprint race. Pretty cool to be facing fears and kicking their @$$ at 43. Did close to 60 miles on the bike today, easy pacing, but I was tired when I finished. I keep reading about having "fresh" legs at the end of the bike leg in order to finish. I sure hope "fresh legs" is a relative term! Will be doing my first HIM 4 weeks from today and that should be incredibly instructive as to whether IM was a good idea for this year. |

Yeah, ain't no way to get off the bike after 112 miles and expect 'fresh' legs. I remember being at mile 3 on the marathon and thinking "I am freakin' exhausted! OMG, I've got 23 miles to do....I'm gonna be out here abother 5+ hours!" :-) ~Mike |

Elite 3498 Chicago | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in Well, the training volume is starting to ramp up. In about 2-3 weeks I will write a blog entry that says something like "I hate doing the Ironman, why did I sign up for this crap, the world sucks, training sucks, my coach sucks..." It's like clock work...every time I train for an Ironman I always get the "everything sucks" attitude about 8 weeks before race day...which will put the "everything sucks" time about mid-late June this season.

I hit that last week while I was sick. I would just look at my tattoo and think - what a farce, what kind of IM am I?! But after visiting my friend who's son I am doing my race in memory of all is back in perspective and I am back in my happy place. I have one more bout of the woe is me's to suffer, last year mine was at about 8 weeks out too. This too shall pass!! |

Things are starting to pick up in my training. Still just working on accumulating more base miles for the next couple weeks, then my coach hits the first build period. I can't believe that I missed a 500mi month on the bike by 8+ miles. Dang. I did re-learn last weekend that hills suck. I had forgotten what it was like to ride up and down all day until I did the AquaBike for the HIM in Macon, GA. 3500' of climbing in 56 miles. I think that's about half of the KY climbing (someone PLEASE tell me I'm wrong). eta: Bike Profile from last weekend.

Expert 913 St. Louis | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in May had it's ups and downs for me. Got in some great cycling volume, but my run suffered because of a banged up knee. I'm working hard to get the knee taken care of, and it should be better in a week or two. Had several pool sessions I was really happy about, and just finished my fastest century ride this weekend. Bricks off the bike have been feeling awesome. Great job everybody. Can't wait to meet y'all in a couple months1 ~B |

Veteran 153 Delaware | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in My training hasn't been quite as good as I wanted it to be. Been consistently training, but haven't been getting the great distances in. Have used the bike ib the gym a lot as it has a lot of great hill courses, and where I live is flat. Work should ease off a little now, so that should help. Maybe I'll even start logging my training! Question for those of you who did it last year. Was the current harder on the left or right going around the island? |

Champion 5615 | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in EPIC 127mi ride this weekend. Last long ride for someone training for IMCdA, so I came along for a chance to crack open my IMKY training. 5650ft of Ascent. Up and down all day long. And, it may have been short and steep, but ANY hill at 108 miles is a leg breaker.

Veteran 249 Kentucky | Subject: RE: IMKY 11 weeks till taper check in The bike rides are ramping up and I am doing 30 to 45 min bricks after each one. The problem I have is that my HR is very high after the ride and I can't seen to keep it down. With a lot of BT help I think my water intake has been to little. Once I get that fixed it will be sweet ... greg |
