WRACE
28C / 82F
Sunny
Total Time = 24m 7s
Overall Rank = 37/100+
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 4/6
Pre-race routine:

Peanut butter folder for breakfast. Today's trick was having the family in tow.
Event warmup:

light job for a minute and light stretching
Run
  • 24m 7s
  • 4.8 kms
  • 05m 01s  min/km
Comments:

I set out pretty fast. Not too fast overall, but too fast to manage a negative split. I sagged a bit in the second 3rd of the race but picked it up for a PR at the end
What would you do differently?:

start out a bit slower. A 5:30-5:40 pace woulf have been good, but I was hell bent on breaking my PR.
Post race
Warm down:

Walk, pour water on myslef, stretch and pose for pics take by my daughter

What limited your ability to perform faster:

training, heat, and pacing

Event comments:

It was a lot of fun. My Daughters (6 and 8) finished 1st and 2nd in the kids dash before the race. Greg, from my running group was there and took home a shirt for finishing top three, as did BT'er, Dave Gibb.

WRACE events are nice, but are not precisely measured and there is no chip timing. I would have PR'd 5k, if the race had not been 4.8k.

Only major criticism was that there were no mileage markers and only one water station. The last WRACE event had 3 stations and a sign at each Km. Also, the cups for water were smaller than the ones at the dentist. I know, it's only 5k, but the times ranged from 18 minutes to well over 40 minutes. More would have been better for many people.

I'll be there again though!!!

Happy with everything except that the race was only 4.8k.  I feel cheated out of a PR.

It was nice to have the kids there, but I needed more ways to keep them occupied.  Thet had to hang around while I ran and then I wanted to wait for the awards and results.  They got boared.

Live and learn.
