Pre-race routine:

Got up, ate, and got a ride to the start area
Event warmup:

set-up transtion area and get body marking and such. I wanted to swim a little before, but I got talking to a buddy of mine and did not have time.
Swim
  • 10m 2s
  • 711 yards
  • 01m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim is my stongest part of the race. I allways feel good in the water and the hitting and getiing hit by others does not bother me. The early crowding slowed me down a bit but I felt good. I opted not to wear a wet suit and maybe I could have been a little faster, but who knows.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 1
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

Again no wetsuit, but I take a extra little time here to put socks on. So I threw my shoes, socks and shirt on along with my new helment and off I went.
What would you do differently?:

???
Bike
  • 33m 1s
  • 12 miles
  • 21.81 mile/hr
Comments:

It was a pretty nice bike course. It was very crowded with other riders for the most part and you had to be careful not to draft. But I guess with 600 entrants and only 12 miles to ride that is going to happen.
Transition 2
  • 01m 3s
Comments:

Felt I did well here jumped off got my running shoes on quick and out the gate.
Run
  • 26m 6s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Well the heat had all ready started rising by this point so the water stop right at the start of the run was welcome. I knew because of the heat it would be a slower run. Around the first mile we had a nice hill that i was able to pass several folks who opted to walk up it. I had been trying all race to catch a buddy of mine who I work with. I could see him before we started up the hill and knew I could catch him. At the 1.5 mile we hit another water station and headed for home.I ended up catching my friend with about 1/2 mile to go, he had a 6 minute head start (he was in an early wave). ran with him and then he took off, not wanting me to beat him across the line, I just kept my pace and kicked it the last 100 yard or so.
Post race
Warm down:

Water, water, stood under the water, sports drink, BBQ.

You did a great job out there! Heat really got to alot of people. Nice to be able to hang with the club under the tent.

Wow Steve, awesome race.  I dream of times like yours, especially your "slow" run.  It was great to get to hang out with you and to finally meet Jill, tell her I said hi.

You let him beat you across the line???? Sigh.......  Have i taught you NOTHING? Hahhaa!!

Really....great race. I didn't know you could actually move that fast! I am impressed! Haha!  Nice job despite the heat. Heat is hard on old men. Glad you survived.
