Hey, thanks for the info! I'll probably do one of the Charles River loops, for 4-5 miles (or less).
I'll be there Wednesday afternoon through Friday noon-ish. I'll probably only get to run Thursday or Friday AM, or Thursday after work before dinner. Maybe sometime Wednesday evening, though it'd probably be late. Are the areas around MIT and across the river (say, from Longfellow Bridge down to BU Bridge on both sides pretty safe late at night and early AM? I'm not easily frightened, but wouldn't want to do anything stupid, either...
I am sure you will have no problems on the loop you mentioned. That route is usually frequented by runners at all times. One great route would be for you to start at Massachusetts Ave Bridge going across the Charles to the Boston side and then hang a left taking the path (with the river on your left ) down to the longfellow (this takes you right past the Boston Sailing Club and the Hatch Shell (where the summer concerts etc are held ).
Here, you can go back across the Longfellow into Cambridge and take another left to go back towards Mass Ave, but this can be a little tricky as the Longfellow Bridge lets you off in a small grassy area that is between the two roads ). You can cross the road on the left side to get back on the path, but this takes you across a pretty heavily traveled road. Not impossible, but not too much fun either. I would recommend that you bypass crossing the Longfellow, and instead go straight and cross over the charles in front if the Museum of Science. It is really easy to do by simply staying on the path. This will add a mile or so to your run, so take it as it is. I am sure that what ever you decide, you will have a good run and let me know how it went! Oh, and bundle up, it's wicked cold here this week.
Cheers,
