Penn Run, Pennsylvania
United States
Total Time = 1h 46m 36s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = Athena
Age Group Rank = 2/5
Event warmup:

I got in the lake and swam a bit. I have never done an OWS and wanted to see what it would be like before the race actually started. I'm glad to say that it didn't freak me out at all!
Swim
  • 25m 38s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

It took a while (almost to the turn around) to get into my rhythm of strokes and breathing. If I had been able to do this sooner, I believe that my time would have been better. It also took a while to get into clear water and not run into people!
What would you do differently?:

Practice open water swims, as this was my first!
Transition 1
  • 02m 7s
Bike
  • 42m 58s
  • 9.5 miles
  • 13.27 mile/hr
What would you do differently?:

I need to spend more time on the bike. The course was uphill on the way out. I struggled some, but my husband says that I passed a lot of people on the bike. The way back was great!!
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 34m 9s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 09m 46s  min/mile
Comments:

Hhmmm, I don't know what to make of this run. My pace, and overall time, was faster than my last 5K (An 11:08 pace), and that was a PR. I find it hard to believe that I could run this fast. I did at one point specifically pick up the pace because I told myself I didn't want to leave anything out on the course. If this is right, I am awesome!!!!
Post race
Warm down:

My husband was waiting at the finish line with my drink! We walked around a bit and watched other finishers. Then I went and picked up my medal :>

What limited your ability to perform faster:

As this was my first tri, I feel that I did not knowing how to pace myself and did not know how much energy I would have at the end of the race. I feel that I could have pushed myself a lot harder on all segments of the race. I learned a lot for next time!

Congratulations on your first tri.  Just keep practicing the open water swims, they definitely get easier.
