Subject: September Triathlons?

Hello there,  I'm new to this sport and still haven't completed my first event yet.  But, that will change come July 13th as I've entered in the Try It Triathlon in Coral Springs.

Anyway, I'd like to get in 3 races this year for my first season.  The first being the Try It, the second I was thinking the Lake Chapparal one...but for the third race....hmmmm.  Are there any in September in the Calgary or Southern Alberta area?

I've been using the ATA website and Multisport Canada website to get a race list, but I know that can't be all of them.  This past weekend I saw a triathlon happening on highway 22 while I was going to the Y.  It was the Lake Sundance Triathlon.  I've also heard that Lake Bonavista holds an annual Triathlon too.  These events aren't listed with ATA so I suppose they aren't sanctioned or whatever.  But, I'm still looking to do something in September even if it isn't ATA sanctioned.  So if anybody can fill me in that would be very nice.  Thanks.

I think the race you saw was the Chinook Half Ironman.

Not sure about Bonavista.

Lots of places have had races but they are no more.

Besides using the resources you listed you can also search the BT list. Also, the March issue of Triathlete has a list of all north american races. There is a half and full iron in Grand Coullee called the Grand Columbian mid September. But it is like a 10 hour drive from Calgary.

Good luck.

Hi I am not sure if you are into Duathlon but there is a race in Sandy Beach which is a little north of Edmonton on Sept.14th.

There is a pool tri in St. Albert on September 1st.  They have the try-a-tri and sprint as options.  Otherwise I haven't seen too much else.  Good luck!

Geez, this thread is resurrected from nearly two years ago!

The Banff Triathlon is a nice addition to the calendar this year.  I don't think I'll make that one.  My plan is to race Ironman Canada and call it quits for the season.  I found last year my motivation was lacking come September, even though I did find a couple races to do for the month - Vancouver Triathlon and the Blitz Duathlon in Bragg Creek.  We'll see though, it could all change.

I did a dive course in Two Jack. If I remember correctly it is not really any colder than Ghost is for Calgary 70.3.

There's a sprint distance triathlon in Lacombe every Labour Day. Their website is going through some transitions right now, but I've been assured by the organizers that it's going ahead. The swim is in Gull Lake, then bike into the town of Lacombe, and then run around the town. It's not very often you get a sprint distance with separate transitions.
