Swim
Comments: The swim started off very good. In the first 100 yards I passed 5 people. I began to tire 150 yards into the swim. I did force myself to keep going. I had a couple people pass me, but I ended up passing 3 or 4 more people. I purposely seeded myself towards the back of the pack in order to not get run over on the swim. What would you do differently?: Try to start a little slower. I need to be a little more realistic about my swim time so I can start a little closer to the front. My swim has been my struggle in my previous 2 races. I am shocked that I came out of the water in 14th place in my age group. The extra work is paying off but I still have a ways to go before I really feel comfortable on the swim. Transition 1
Comments: T1 was combined with the bike time. I felt T1 went well. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: I am disappointed with my ranking for the bike. The bike has traditionally been my stronger part of a tri. I feel that I could have pushed it a little harder. What would you do differently?: Train harder for the bike. I took for granted that my biking was in good shape and didn't spend enough time training. I need to learn to push myself a little harder. Goal is to average 20 mph on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: T2 was OK. I feel normally I do a good job in transition, but I was a little slow on this day. I was 19th in my AG in T2. Run
Comments: I didn't push myself hard enough on the run. I did a combination of run/walk. If you look at my logs I did not train as well for the run as I should have and I didn't train at a fast enough pace. With a little more training I should be able to go from a BOP to a MOP. What would you do differently?: Train more and leave everything on the course. Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: I felt as if I trained hard for this race. I was probably better prepared for this race that my previous 2, but now I know I need to train even more if I want to move up to the middle of the pack. Event comments: Going into the race I was expecting 1:45. I thought I might be able to get to 1:30 if everything went perfectly. I finished at 1:40 so I am not disappointed, but I know I can do a lot better. I have a race in 4 weeks which will be the same basic distance. I am now so motivated to complete it in under 1:30. Had pancakes for breakfast. Drove an hour to the race site. Set up transition, stretched, jogged 1/4 mile, then ate a Cliff Bar. I had a couple of my good friends at this race so it was nice to chat with them before the race. They also brought their bikes and rode to several different points on the run course so they could cheer me on.
