Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:30 as the kids were getting ready to go to swim practice. Tried my hardest to go back to sleep, but around 7:30 figured that I might as well run.
Event warmup:

Biked 2 miles to the race.

Comments:

A very nice run. Started towards the back, and started passing people pretty quick. Looked down at mile 1 and I was going an insane pace, so I started slowing down a little, to have something left for the end. There was a large group pulling ahead in the first mile. It turned out that most of them were high school students on the track team, and some 40+ year olds. The last person I passed was at the aid station at mile 2.5. She grabbed water, I didn't.

Was clearly slowing down a little on the false flat at the end. That section always gives me a little trouble. Had enough to kick it up for the last quarter mile.
What would you do differently?:

It was a good race, especially without preparation or tapering.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a little, cheering on people. There was a pancake breakfast after the race.

Event comments:

A nice small local race. Not as huge as Pleasant Hill Firecracker 5.
