Subject: Beer Mile in Fort Worth, TX

Hey everyone!

I am holding a Beer Mile race at an undisclosed location in Fort Worth next Saturday, July 26th. Undisclosed = undecided. I have no idea which track would be the best to go to for such an event, this is the first time I've organized something like this. Any ideas? Small, secluded tracks that will help us keep things on the DL?

Any and all help on this is appreciated...thanks and gig 'em.

-Cheryl

Can't help with location but I might be interested in running but would probably want to find someone in the North Dallas Area to carpool with, gas is too freakin' expensive to drive to FW to run a mile.

I would check with the DFW Hash House Harriers.  They might be able to help with a location since they like to run and drink.  I did their Beermile a few years ago.

Eh, not sure. Never go to Ft. Worth.

Might I add that the Goatneck Bike Rally is on 7-26-08. Might pull headcount from your deal.

Tyler,

I'm ashamed to admit but I've organized one before following the rules from www.beermile.com

We chose a local track that you could not see from the road and we cleaned our mess afterwards.

I went 7.34 and puked when I crossed the line that was back in the day when I was a pure runner (Dec. 06).

If you use a public track be careful. Drinking on school property is illeagal. If it's a college you need their permission.

I has a Beer Mile down here in Austin last year and we had it in one of the parks that allowed alcohol. We had 107 do the event and about another 200 show up to watch. It was pretty crazy.

Just make sure to clean up your mess and don't put your name on anything. If someone drives after your event and kills someone or kills themselves you are liable.

Thanks for the replies.  There probably won't be too many of us, maybe max of 20 or so people optimistically.  I created a Facebook event page about it and pointed out that everyone better have a designated driver before they leave the premises.  I've checked out http://www.beermile.com and it's helped a little bit.

I definitely plan on cleaning up everything, making sure everyone is safe, and of course make sure everyone has a good time.

As far as cleaning up here is a suggestion.  The race I did had 1 or 2 people with large garbage bags in the "transition area" and you had to hand your empty beer to them to bag immediately.  If it was not empty they gave it back.

If it's later in the day and somewhere closer to Grapevine I would go....  Fort Worth is too far for me, for a beer mile anyways.  Gonna have any cool T-Shirts?  I went to one in austin last year and it was alot of fun & they had some cool shirts.
