Pre-race routine:

Got up at O dark 30 and had breakfast. Grabbed the last few things from the house and headed out. Enjoyed the drive to the race site. There was no one on the road and it was a great drive.
Event warmup:

Got in the COLD water and swam around for a bit. Got out and froze until the horn went off.
Swim

  • 586 yards
  • 02m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

This swim was awful for me. The markers were almost impossible to see. The water was a bit choppy and cold. I wish I had grabbed my wetsuit. I don't know, I was just slow. I had a hard time getting into a good rhythm, don't think I ever did.
What would you do differently?:

Everything.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Times were added into the bike and I forgot to press the lap button on my watch after I left T1. Grr.

Had a decent T1. Dried my feet, put my socks and shoes on and off I went.
What would you do differently?:

Nada.

Comments:

I loved the bike course. It was mostly flat with a few rollers if you want to even call them that. It was a two lap course and just plain fun! I drank my entire water bottle w/Nuun but that didn't seem to help me much on the run.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I can't wait to have my new bike next season and see how much of a difference it makes.
Transition 2
  • 00m 41s
Comments:

Racked my bike, swapped out my shoes, grabbed my race belt, visor and water and off I went. No problems.
What would you do differently?:

Nada
Run
  • 35m 17s
  • 3.5 miles
  • 10m 05s  min/mile
Comments:

I started out running out of T2 and had calf cramps almost right away. What?? I have NEVER cramped up. Ever. Oh well, always a first right? I slowed down, drank some water and waited to see if they would loosen up. I got tired of walking after 20 seconds and just started running. It didn't take long to get into a good stride. I grabbed some Gatorade at each aide station. That helped a lot.
What would you do differently?:

I was really happy with my pace considering my calf issues. There really isn't anything I would have done differently.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some water and had a Luna bar. Chatted with a few people and packed up to head home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Calf cramps.

Event comments:

For a first time event, this was a great race. There were very few issues. One being no port-a-potties available and the other was no dismount line. Lots of aide stations, great course and great people. Definitely will do this one next year and suggest it to everyone I know. Had a great time!
