Subject: Paleo Diet for Athletes?I was looking at some of the finishers in the "Badwater Ultramarathon" and found a woman that followed the "Paleo diet for Athletes". I bought the book and it is fascinating. Written by a PHD that teaches in Colorado. Full of real research references. Also endorsed by Joe Friel. Basically he believes that our diet should be based on foods that our ancestors ate. Not the modern foods in our diet. Our ancestors were hunter-gatherers, not farmers. So, he eliminates most grains. Emphasizes lots of fruits and veggies, and lean meats. No Dairy. Tons of scientific data to back it up. So, it is similar to the low carb, Atkins, south beach, etc. However, he also gets very specific on what foods, oils, etc are better than others. Anyone else follow that diet? |
