I think it's a really classy move for Bush to be there, attending the events, and supporting the athletes. I can't remember any past presidents staying for such a long period of time. Maybe some have. Either way, good for him for being there. In the end, that can only help stabilize the foundation of our relationship with China.. build from there.

I thought I heard one of the announcers during the opening ceremony say something along the lines of "He is the first president to attend an Olympics outside the US" ?? Anybody else hear that? Maybe it was "first president since 19XX" to do so. Either way, I'm glad he went too.

He's spent more time in Beijing in one trip than any other president has spent in one city (outside the US) ever.  I think that's good.  Like him or not, I'd imagine that it helps build team spirit.  I think it's great.

Also on the plus side, he has also taken a more firm and public stance on human rights while he's been there.

He's spent more time in Beijing in one trip than any other president has spent in one city (outside the US) ever.

That's because he is our "Vacationer in Chief"  He has spent more time on vacation than any other president, ever.  Remember, he went to Camp David 3 days after 9/11 and played golf.  He had his pilot do a fly over New Orleans on his way to his ranch and still went to Crawford after seeing the detestation "You're doing a good job Brownie"

The GWB track record : He has bankrupted 3 oil companies, a Major league baseball team and the richest country in the world.

So him taking extra time off doesnt impress me at all.  Personally, I'd rather see him at work and not watching sports.
