Ok, I'll start us off.  Looks like we may be getting a tropical storm/hurricane during the week.  Hopefully it doesn't slow down and screw up the weekend.

Where is this one located?

Tropical Storm Fay is down below Cuba; the Hammerhead Olympic Triathlon is this coming Saturday at Camp Blanding which is located just east of Starke, west of Green Cove Springs, and southwest of Jacksonville.

I'd take a cool rain over the sauna-like conditions last year!

I did the Florida Challenge in 2005 when Hurricane Wilma was 1 day away from the area. I was a blast, and beside the slight breeze, the weather was awesome!!

That storm will be here and gone by then, the problem the organizers had when Wilma came through was the emergency personnel question, they were all put on alert and there was doubt the event could go off because of those type things.

Just a quick correction from above, the race is on Sunday, not Saturday.  Please don't show up a day early.

What are the water temps for the whatever we swim in?  Any ideas.

Sorry about that; I do know that it is this Sunday, but I will be heading out that way on Saturday to pick up my race packet. I swam in the lake yesterday and it felt really good after biking and running. It was actually cooler than I expected, but I have no idea what the water temp was.

I live 20-ish minutes from Camp Blanding and can tell you that it rained almost all day today, when it wasn't raining it was freakish hot and stupid humid.  Oh, and the wind sucks too!  Not racing the HOT this year and I wish you all good luck with the weather.

I will be there.  I haven't registered yet but I'm assuming they will have registration on Saturday.  I didn't reg just in case, ya know?

Last year the water was stupid hot...it's why they delayed the race so much, cuz there was so much fog on the water.  Hopefully it won't be the same way this year...the whole day was stupid hot.  I've never even come close to collapsing from heat exhaustion, until that race last year...they almost hauled me away.

I will be there tho.  Parrj's comin' for me.  I gotta watch my back!  Hey, did you get the 1080/Sub9, Jeff?

I am gonna head up Saturday morning to get there for packet pickup as well.   I will get a room up there and then head to Blanding...I wouldn't mind meeting up and maybe going to lunch or something before packet pickup?  Or maybe packet pickup and then dinner?

I don't know about that.  I should probably beat you on the swim.  The bike may be a wash.  You will kill me on the run.  The heat and humidity have not allowed me to really get my run going, especially for 6.2 miles.

Hey Jeff. I hope you get to race this weekend - I'm sure you will do great.

Maybe I will train and stay healthy enough to join you all in this race next year. Good luck to everyone racing and I hope the storm passes so the wind is not a major factor!

I'm staying with a friend of mine up there.  Probabaly will do dinner with him, so let's plan on lunch.  I'm gonna wanna ride a bit too, so I'll be up at Blanding a bit early to do that.  I'm OK with where ever you decide for lunch.

Anyone wanna do a loop of the course with me before or after registration?

I'd be up for that.

Any idea on what time you are going to hit the course?

Not sure just yet, but most likely I'll do my registration at 2 and then ride.  Just one loop.  Shouldn't take any more than 45 minutes or so.  Gonna do it slow and easy.

Of course, Fay has almost completely stopped off the coast and could be with us for a few days now...hmmmm...damn storm.

OK, my wife and kids were thinking about going up with me, I will check with them.

If they dont go I can ride anytime, if they do I will have to see when I can get up there. I will ride for 2-3 hours prob.

She said we will talk about it tonight, so it is......

Sounds good.  I won't wanna ride that long, but you can keep doing loops out there, it's actually a nice course.  I'll enjoy it even more this year since all I wanna do anymore is climb hills.  Thank you Coeur d'Alene, ID for my new addiction.

I just signed up..finally.    I may come down on Saturday for packet pickup; just depends on what my family is doing.  I need a bit of taper time this week as I'm just about fried, but I'd probably do an easy ride.

Hope to see y'all there!

With the wind we've had I'd be hoping for a good cleanup crew on Camp Blanding.  The tree limbs are a flying.

I just got an email from Susan Wallis (the Hammerhead club president) asking for volunteers to help clean up the roads Saturday afternoon.  Anyone who's interested, PM me your email address and I'll send you info.  I'll try to be out there..
