Run
Comments: I felt good at start adn my pre-race goal was sub 20:00. Talking with djdavey, i thought we would be running together. At the 1/2 mile mark i knew he was way to strong for me. I tried to stay smooth and relaxed and at 1 mile my split was 6:02. I knew that was too fast. The race is spread out and i'm 30 sec back from 2nd place and not gaining any ground. Trying to stay relaxed i knew i was going to be 3rd or 4th and didn't want to slip back too much. Herre comes mile two (6:25)and i hear footsteps. The first place woman goes by me. I can't respond. I look back and see huge gap. Now, its about running the last mile and trying to accomplish my goal. The last 1/2 mile is slightly uphill and the calm breeze is in our faces. I was dying, but the street signs showed i was getting closer. Turned a corner then another and i knew i was within my goal. I sort of had a kick (or sense of relief) to finish in 19:45. What would you do differently?: Start slower - do more speed work (1/4's and 1/2's). Post race
Warm down: Got water, stretched and walked some. Went over to wellness fair and had things to eat and listen to band. talked with others about the race What limited your ability to perform faster: I can't think of any limiters. My health this year has limited me in so many ways, that todays run was a huge milestone for me. I'm not sure i could've run any faster than i did. Event comments: A first time event. Maybe 150-200 runners and walkers. Well organized with wellness fair, music and snacks (sammy's from Jimmy Johns). I am happy i decided to run the race. Last updated: 2008-08-16 12:00 AM
