Swim
Comments: The reading in the water the day before during packet pick up was 76 degrees, however we arrived race morning and temps were at 78.8, so no wetsuits. Bummer! My goal of about 23 minutes wasn't close at all. I looked at my watch coming out of the water and it was over 31 minutes! I was like "What is going on?". It didn't seem right. My pull was good, sighting went well, a very mild current if any, and very calm water. So I was really confused. It was about a 1 minute jog to the transition coming out of the water that was included in my overall time, but my pace ended up being 2:10/100 meters. I didn't even swim that pace when I first started training for Triathlon so it made me even question it more. The only satisfying takeaway from the swim is that every athlete I spoke to complained about their swim time. It leads me to believe the distance was much longer than a typical 1500M race. So in my mind I'll remove this swim time from my memory because I know what I normally swim at. What would you do differently?: Not much, felt everything went pretty smooth. Transition 1
Comments: Great transition. Although I swam without a shirt, I am getting used to putting a dry shirt on over my wet body during transition. It's getting easier each time. However, a tri suit will be much less hassle, so I can't wait to find one during the offseason. What would you do differently?: Trisuit Bike
Comments: I thought this course was much more hilly when we drove it the night before rather than race day. Some of the long gradual climbs weren't bad at all. Granted there were still tough hills, but overall the course wasn't too bad. The only issue I had were the road conditions. A lot of potholes and rocky surfaces. There were two accidents I knew of, and one happended to involve a member of the Frederick Tri Club of which I belong to. He is doing Ok and will be fine, but definitely scary. What would you do differently?: Nothing Transition 2
Comments: Easy, no issues. Felt good getting off the bike. What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I recorded a PR on the run today. A 7:50 pace. I was pleased with that for a 10K. The run was the same first few miles of the bike course, then a turnaround back to the park. Long gradual climbs again, but was able to reap the benefits of coming back down those hills after the turnaround. My legs felt great after the bike. Thanks to Elite for hooking me up with a great bike fit. What a difference it makes! I still can't wait to get my tri bike, should be any week now. What would you do differently?: Practice more bricks. Post race
