I'm curious if anyone knows of a fast/flat HIM or IM course close to Las Vegas.  I'm thinking CA or UT or something like that...

Maybe check out SOMA in October. (It is in Tempe right where IMAZ is)

While your at it, if the course looks fun, then check out IMAZ since it covers some of the same ground.

Also might want to check out IMCal 70.3 in April 2009.

Although the bike course does have a few hills (With Names that is), the swim and the run are pancake flat. Looking at the results, it can certainly be a fast race

The Big Kahuna in Santa Cruz is supposed to be a pretty flat course.  It is the weekend after Labor Day.

Not sure how close you call 'close' but the HIM in Tauranga, New Zealand is all flat!. I suppose you think a 12 hour flight is too far? Hmmm. OK, sorry for wasting your time.

You would think so

What I meant was that this course is in a protected harbor and so no waves and usually no currents or much wind chop in case it is windy. (No Fetch in a small harbor)

Water and air temps have typically been this races downfall but the RD seems keen on rectifying this and so has been steadily moving the race up the calendar the last few years. (It used to be beginning of March)

I was just playing.  The funny thing is when I use my garmin to swim and download to the route tracker it always shows some elevation gain.

You would think so! However, I once did a pool swim tri where we swam the first part in an indoor pool, then ran outside and up a steep hill to swim the remainder in an outside pool. The bike and run course were also very hilly, but it was the only time I had a hilly swim!

That is the effen funniest thing I've read all day.

Yo, Kido, pick me pick me pick me!!! Come do CA 70.3 and hang out!!! I've also heard awesome things about Big Kahuna, it's just later in the year. Plus they usually mismeasure the swim course short
