Subject: RE: Heart Rate Monitor hazmaster - 2008-08-26 8:58 PM The whole GPS thing I think is over rated..in my humble opinion anyways. If all you are looking for is HRM, then my money is on Polar. Idiot proof, which is good for me, bomb proof, again me and for the money, they all have the bells and whistles that you could want. Running room I found had the best prices when I bought 8 months ago. Other than the Running Room having good prices...I can second the recommendation. Personally, I'd still like a little GPS in my game and some of the Polars support GPS add-ons; but as far as I understand it, Garmin is the way to go if you want the GPS. For a straight up HRM, Polar's will be good (although a bit pricey at times for what you get). Costco has a pretty decent Timex for about $75 or so. Online they have a Bodylink system (GPS included) that I tried and do not recommend. Not worth the price at all. Also online, Costco.ca has an Omron that I used for a while and was actually quite happy with - aside from the complete lack of features. As a truly basic HRM, it did the job well. A good place to check is also MEC (Garmin 305 for something stupid like $235). They'll have some of the more spanky brands sometimes too, like Suunto (which I've heard are pretty much fantastic). Good luck.
