I am getting a pain in the heal of my arch after I run.  I am currently rolling a golf ball under my foot and it seams to help.  I am only 4 week out of my first sprint and dont want to stop training.  Suggestions????

Yeah, log your training if you want better advice on these kinds of questions.

Pain on the "heal of my arch after I run" could be plantar fasciitis. Do a search, especially in the Injuries & Health Issues forums for treatments.

1. New shoes

2. Roll you bare feet on frozen water bottles (2 or 3 times a day)

3. Ibuprofen 800 mg. 3 times a day

4. Don't run on concrete or asphalt

5. Never break the 10% increase rule

All these things helped with my PF and it sounds like that may be your problem.

Yes. yes. yes.  I also see a massage therapist for all soft tissue issues.  He gets in deeper than I will put myself through via a golf ball or frozen water bottle, so I use him to kick start the process and then I maintain it.  Has worked very well for me for a series of issues.  I've had a few races where i kept a golf ball in transition and actually quickly rolled the foot I had issues with in T2.  A time waster, but better than not finishing.

Stretch, stretch, stretch, stretch, and then stretch some more.

Also, try taping for training runs.

I also use the night sock when mine flares up, although that has not happened since I did more stretching. You might be able to get at a local running store.

So I have PF... Its the running I have been doing...  Stinks that you have to run to be able to run...  Before i started training I thought that swimming would be my least fav. by far its running cause of the pain....

Must keep to the 10% rule when increasing run distance, you might have over did it. Now you have to take it easy to get rid of the plantar. What did your doctor suggest? Was orthotics mentioned? When I got plantar years ago, the podiatrist recommended custom orthotics. They worked so well, I can't tell you which foot had plantar.

Could be tightness, knots in your calf.  Stretch and use The Stick.

Sounds like plantar fasciitis. The golf ball helps, but you'll need to do some other things to get it under control. I had it so severely this winter that I had to take off 4 months from running. So sometimes a short break is worth it to reduce the inflammation and get back on track more quickly.

I do a PF stretch every day still even though it's under control. You can find them online. Calf stretching was my downfall, I just didn't do it enough. Now I stretch my calves 2x/day, and while I was battling PF, I stretched 5 or more times per day. I iced twice a day and took ibuprofen as well. It's a common injury so the good news is there's great advice online about it and a lot of people can share their tips. Good luck.

Thanks guys,

Dr's. dont like them.. They just say stop training..

Training log?- Kidding me?  I been training for 3 weeks.

I do a lot of rope jumping in the past and that is the first time I got it.  Running a TM seems to help a lot.  Can I just run on a TM and make progress...???

Yea, I basically went from low cardio training to 2x a day sprint training...

I feel your pain...literally! I'm currently dealing with a severe case of PF...so severe that it spawned a heel spur that showed up on x-ray. Let me tell you...DO NOT let it get to that point! If you think it's painful now...just imagine how much worse it'll be with a heel spur. I'm icing, massaging, and stretching like crazy...and to no avail. Pain is as bad as it's ever been. I've had to really cut back on my running (and I've only been running on a treadmill lately)...and may have to stop altogether. I can barely walk at times. Next step for me, is to see a podiatrist about custom inserts or something along those lines. PF really sucks!

The sudden increase in speed is likely what did it. As nscrbug said, don't let it get to the point of a spur. I kept running on it and ended up unable to even take a step. I couldn't put pressure on it for over two weeks, and then walking on the ball of my foot screwed up my calf.

If it were me, I would stop running and take care of it. Squeezing in time on the treadmill doesn't seem worth it.
