So my co-workers and I survived our first tri... I can't beleive that a race that I was listed as RD was a success... Well, yes I can... I do put on pretty good special events... and the pool manager basically served as RD as well....

We had a SUCCESS!!!!! Everyone was excited and is looking forward to next year....

We may have run the safest race in Ut this year.... we had 5 officers.... 3 patrol cars and motor on our dinky little 3 point something mile loop....

There were a few glitches but nothing major....

Sounds like it went AMAZINGLY!! Thats pretty awesome feedback for the first event.. Im guessing capping hte numbers at 100 ended upbeing a really good call too?

Did you ever solve the mystery of the missing drink bottles?

Definitely glad we capped it.... thinking that next year we will try to accomodate 200 to 250 but maybe look at doing chips....

NO., the bottles never reappeared.... we had an incident yesterday with the shirts too.... I KNOW and so does the Pool Manager, that we ordered 121 and cushioned a few in each size for 7 extras.... we had to call the shirt comp to get SEVEN more printed for packets... and all our extras ended up being small's ????? Weird????

Well that sounds more like htey messed up the order? Not sure...

I guess at least yuo know next time to double check everything and maybe keep it under lock and key or something... even when it seems weird someone will take it!

Seriously... 100 drink bottles? That just seems nuts to me!

I'mpretty sure that the shirt issue is NOT related to the bottle problem....

We were too anxious to get busy stuffing packets and the sirts kept arriving in bathces not all at once... so it was hard to keep track of them....

LOL.... I love special events... and used to love helping organize races in college.... problem is I can't imagine the pay being very good, and with bigger companies I'msure you'd be looking at A LOT of travel, which with kids isn't practical...

So I guess I'll just have to stick with my little gov't rec center job for now

Everyone seems to be enjoying the long weekend. Cat, I thought of you today while I was watching the USPRO championships. It was a photo finish between Garmin-Chipotle's Blake Caldwell and Rock Racing's Tyler Hamilton. Tyler won it by one hunderdth of a second. Amazing because not only is he 37 and returning to racing after a doping suspension, but also that Garmin-Chipotle had three men in the breakaway and Tyler had no one.

Sounds like Garmin may have messed that up!!!

doping or not - he always was a pretty awesome athlete...  hopefully it will all go his way and he will at least be able to get a few more years racing out of his team!

barqhead - 2008-09-01 10:11 AM Everyone seems to be enjoying the long weekend.

Yeah. The announcer asked Tyler "Well you've just prolonged your racing career by at least one more year." Tyler laughed and shrugged. He seemed genuinely in shock that he had edged out Caldwell for the win. The last two circuits in the downtown area it was just the two of them cat and mousing. But when they first entered the downtown area off their last climb up Paris mountain, Garmin looked like they had control with 3 guys in the break and 2 more on the front of the chase group.

Well good luck to him I say... Rock Racing seems to be prepared to take a chance on guys who had perhaps done the wrong thing in the past...

Some people say its bad for the reputation and the sport... but in terms of business its kind of smart... its says we are the team of 'bad boys' that takes risks etc... like taking Cippo on for the Tour of california earlier in the year...

As long as the guys who have been caught out in the past stay with clean records fo the future it could work out to be a very clever strategy for them! And they could also take on older well known cyclists retiring from the European scene fo a year or so which will bump up thei profile from time to time...
