Subject: Manhattan Sports Club?

Wondering if anyone can steer me in the right direction for some spinning / swimming while I am in NYC for a brief visit?

I usually bag the workouts while I'm there but this time thought I'd try to stick to my program.  I was going to go the Google route but then thought I'd try the friendly peeps at BT.

I'm staying right in Midtown on W. 49th / Lexington.

Am looking for something suitable for a country bumpkin midwesterner ;-

Thanks!!!

If you're on Lexington, wouldn't that be East 49th? Best bet for both would be Asphalt Green, which has a great pool/fitness center. It's also in a nice, safe residential neighborhood. Drawbacks are it's out of the way vs where you're staying and it might be pricey. You could take the subway there then do a swim/bike workout, then run home (probably like 2-3 miles) and tell everyone you did a triathlon in NYC!

NY Health & Racquet Club on Park and 57th St. has a pool.  Granted, AsphaltGreen has a 50 meter pool.

I have no idea if you can do a daypass to NYHRC (or AsphaltGreen for that matter).  You could always do what we did - jump in the Hudson at 99th street and swim to 79th St.  Then again, that's on the West Side.

Aside from the sportsclubs, you're 9 blocks from Central Park - you can do a run of pretty any distance you want in Central Park.  Plus, they do have bike rentals, but they wouldn't exactly be workout bikes, more like beachcombers.

The other thing to check is that your hotel may have "privileges" to a local sports club, I'd check with the concierge.  NYHRC is your best bet for a pool nearby your hotel and AsphaltGreen is your best bet for a kick azz 50 meter pool, if you don't mind the hike to 90th St.

OMG, it's 50 meters! Now I'm seriously envious. I have  50 meter for summers only, and really it's so much nicer doing your workouts!

Thanks for the tips.  I'm kinda gung ho with this HIM plan I started and wanna stick to it even though I'm a brief vaykay.
