Subject: Newbie Question / Numbers on the Body

Newbie Question:

What product is being used to write numbers on our body?  Is it regulated?

Should I get something myself? Or do the volunteers apply them?

The other Reason for asking is...
(We own a temp tattoo business for our kids to have some fun... Would it be a good idea to approach the organizers about spraying numbers that are FDA approved & Waterproof ink on the participants during an event? - Which do not smear?)

note: Its probably noted somewhere in the forums, but just can't seem to find it. I apologize in advanced

Thanks!!!

All races I have, it's been just a simple black marker, like sharpie....  THEY apply the markings.  However, I have been known to fix them if I had to get them the day before and they start to fade.

The big M-dot races look like they stencil them on with some kind of spray.  Not sure what it is.

I think they use stamps at Kona.

Black permanent markers every race I've been to. It comes off in the shower and I've never had any adverse reactions to it.

I found that the added weight of the ink slows me down.  Otherwise, I'm sure I'd be faster.

Most races just use a black marker. At some of the bigger races where there is a line for body marking, I've brought my own marker and have a friend do it rather than wait in line.

You could approach an RD with your idea, but considering the minimal expense of markers compared to what you may need to charge, you may not have any luck. Maybe if you donate your services to promote your business you might get something out of it in the long run.

It would be great if races used waterproof spray as apposed to sharpy permanent ink.

I always get ink on the car seat after a race or on my tri suits. Its also hard to take off in the shower.
