Subject: Wetsuit for Long Island Sound in Oct?
Hi,

I'm competing in my first triathlon on Oct. 12: the Cedar Beach Triahtlon in Miller Place, NY. The swim is in Long Island Sound. I was hoping some veterans could give me some advice about wetsuits. Do I need one? If so, can anyone give recommendations for rentals in NYC/Long Island?

Thanks.

Im across the other side and 100 miles upstream, but IIWY, yes you'll want one. I've been in the week of Haloween after a WARM fall and the water was colder than a woman's heart.

x2

As someone who swims in the sound, I would absolutely recommend using one.

You can rent one for $40 at Runner's Edge in Farmingdale or online. I believe its wetsuitrental.com, I used them last year and they were about the same price and dependable. I would wear the wetsuit in October.

I work has a diver in the city and on Long Island, water temps are already dropping. I hold out has long has I can before having to go into my drysuit for work (late Nov). Temps in Oct should be in the 60s a 3mm will be fine for the swim during the tri. I have a Sprint Tri also on the 4 of Oct, Bass Man in south Jersey I will be using a sleeveless suit, but then again that me.......
