Subject: What to do a lunch for Maxium weight lose
I am trying to lose the rest of my weight in the next 3 or 4 months so I can have a good 9 months of solid and hard training for my ironman.

My swim needs work so I thought about doing drills during lunch but I currently doing weight lifting during lunch. I am doing this to remove muscle imbalances and mostly to build muscle to lose weight.

I am wondering if I should still lift over lunch or if I should start swimming. I lost alot of weight earlier this year when I was running over lunch so I thinking maybe that is the way to go. I really do not know. I did get injuried running around 40 miles a week + every other week running a marathon but the weight came off qucikly.

I do not care about the stregnth and probably want to burn the muscle off once the fat is off.

You really need to work on some biking.  Can you fit that in over lunch?

My story:

I am following the Intermediat IM plan that BT offers.  During the week, I am able to do one of the workouts during lunch in most cases.  I tried to get up early, but just can't do it.  So I either lift or run or swim.  (I have also been known to stretch my lunch to about 90 minutes instead of an hour on occasion Surprised)

That may change during the second half of the plan as the workouts may get longer.

If it were the off season, I would swim and lift during my lunch hours, and then run/ride after work for 60-90 minutes.  However, to maximize weight loss, lifting and RUNNING would probably burn most calories during that limited amount of time.

I could bike on a stationary bike but I heard that does not help.

So does that mean you think I would be better off running?

There is kind of a loaded question.  Fitness, health, injury, goals, etc, all play a factor.  But if you want to limit the scope to JUST about weight loss, then probably, yes.

I'm just saying that running probably gives you more bang for the buck, time wise.  It uses more muscles than other types of cardio.  Lifting may not burn as many while doing the activity, but increased muscle mass will cause you to burn more calories throughout the day.  But since you say you get injured with excessive running, then biking or swimming could be better.  I might lean towards swimming, since I like it more and I like how it tones the upper body.

If it were me, and time was a limiter, and I was 100% healthy, I would alternate with 30 min lifting one day, then 30 minutes running then next and maybe one swim a week.  But that's just me.

Also, all that will not amount to much if the diet isn't right.

I used to bring my bike to work and I could ride 50' in an hour during lunch. I always felt way better after my rides. I would quick change and then wash my hair and wipe down and I was back to work.

Do you have a place to ride outside during lunch hour?

Key is stay healthy to be ready for IM training and I agree now is the time to lose weight. Me I want to drop 15-20 before my next IM. My plan is to ride lots...easiest for me, non weight bearing, I like it, and it tends not to make me hungry. How about that try and ride every day? 700 miles a month? Great for building up bike fitness which will help you next year...remember my saying..each pedal stroke will get you closer to your goal of being an IM.

I followed something very similar to Body For Life (both what they suggest workout wise and nutritionally).  I dropped a good bit of body fat very fast.  With that said, it's a lower carb plan which doesn't jive so well with endurance training.  (i.e. you really need the carbs to put up big tri workouts).  If you could afford to give up 2 months or so of tri training being your primary goal, and commit to something like that 100%, that gives you another option.  fwiw, following a nutrition plan to a T is what gave me 90% of my fat loss results (i.e. not the workouts).
