Hi Guys!

I need to do an OWS on Sunday, Sept 21. It's kind of like a get re-acquainted with the wet suit kind of day. I figure this would be a great day to get one final OWS in before the SC half. I'm not set on any particular time, just kind of depends on who's all coming and what works.

Let me know if you'd like to come and what time range works best for you.

Wes I desperately need to do an OWS simply because I haven't done one. But I don't have a wet suit. Can I still come?

as far as time I am flexible but probably 8ish am would be best. Or morning.

Sure. Wet suit is not required I'm thinking the water will still be reasonably warm.

It's North of Woodstock.

I swam at Mary Alice Park this weekend.  The lake was not cold, but it was a bit chilly first getting in.  No wey suite needed, at least for Lake Lanier.

Yes! Up I-75, a bit before you get to the Bud Plant in Cartersville. I'm sure the water will be warm enough to swim without a wet suit. I want a little practice in my for the SC HIM.

My husband and I would like to join.  We are in Marietta.  I have to do 30 mins and then go do a flat bike ride.  Can we aim for 8:30?  Where at Red Top Mountain?  Boat ramp by bridge?  Right there is pretty busy boat traffic wise.

For the guy in Atlanta, there is an exit for Red Top Mountain.  I think it is exit 185 on I-75.  But it says Red Top mountain.  It's about 30 mins highway from Atlanta.  But turn right off of the exit and you will go over a huge metal bride and the boat ramp is on the left, if that is where we are swimming.  $3 parking fee

When I went with the Tri club from Dunwoody, we swam in the cove by the lodge. No boat traffic and fairly sheltered from the wind and the waves. I'm OK with 8:30 AM. Nat?

The tri2remember group parked by the lodge and walked down the paved path to the lake.  They swam from there to the point to the right, re-grouped.  Swam across to the point on your left, regrouped and picked a swim buddy.  Then, they hugged the shore (on your right) past the boat ramp (on your left).  Then they headed out to the "pile of white rocks".  I believe the gentlemen running it said to the boat ramp and back was an 800.  To the white rocks and back was a 1600.  There was absolutely NO boat traffic there.

Parking was $3 (I think???) and you paid in the lodge.  The lodge has bathrooms and a restaurant.

Nat, I would certainly give myself 45 minutes or so (maybe less on Sunday morning). The quickest way is to take 92 to I-75 N then get off at the next exit (Glade Road) and make a right and take that into the park. You are looking to turn onto Park Marina Road then another right on Lodge Road. Parking is $3.00 and we will meet on the trail at the end of the parking lot.

Thanks for the company guys! I do appreciate it!!

I am still planning on being there.

Who is the group?

Wes

Nat

Who else?

Wes, how far/long are you swimming? I'd like to swim for at least 35 minutes. Longer would even be better. I just want to prepare myself for how long it will feel at SC HIM. I don't plan on race pace but will do the whole 1.2 if that is what you want to do.

I just may be there.  I think it would be good to get in at least one OWS before SC.

Nat, I am planning on dragging Dee Dee along as well. She may not swim, but I've asked her to keep an eye on us from the trail that runs along the cove. I have to swim 45 minutes. We can do your 35 minutes then I'll go for 10 by myself, or you can join me for that too. I like to swim nice and steady in the OW, so I imagine that that will suit you just fine. If we all decide to swim as a group, that suits me just fine too.

For people looking for a bike route, if you take Glade Road down into Acworth, you can find some reasonably flat roads to ride on, namely old Hwy 41 (N. Main St). Of course, finding flat up here in North Georgia is damn near impossible. N. Main Street is pretty flat out to Hwy 41. Glade Road is a little hilly getting out of the park but flattens once you leave the park area.

Check out G-Map (www.gmap-pedometer.com), or some other routing web site to check it out.

I'm doing an hour run afterwords - about 8 min per mile pace if anyone wants to join.

You should do it.  Think of it as making up for the swims you didn't do this week.
